Oh my god, I know EXACTLY what you mean. WHY does some of it get lost, when others parts persist with such intensity? And why are the parts that are lost, lost? Why those parts, and not other parts?

I can't remember anything I have a black hole. You just have a filter.
But you know, just a bit of psychology trivia. It is probable that there is some stimulus that would bring that memory back, the way that the song brought those other memories. When we get old, our brains forget where they stored things

Hmm... What you heard and what it felt like to be there come in through different senses. So you might have a difficulty processing and/or retaining auditory input, but find it relatively easy to retain other input.
By the way I remember what things felt like too, in fact that's what I think in (a succession of feelings) — but that's very hard to explain. In any case I case I can picture something that took place when I was 9 and remember what if felt like so clearly I can look at it through adult eyes and tell you what other people were feeling, even though at the time I couldn't have understood most of it.
