You'll probably enjoy the new bank. I really appreciate my small local bank, especially since I greatly respect their charitable giving in my community. Warm fuzzy feelings shouldn't be the primary reason for choosing a bank, but if you can get good service, good interest rates, and accounts that meet your needs with few or no fees at a bank you feel good about banking with, why wouldn't you bank there?

Why did it stick an advertisement in my comment?

EC,
I'm not seeing an ad in your comment. For a while I had in-text ads on my site, but that was just in the posts, not the comments, and I killed them months ago.

I Lurve my credit union.
The big bank was really chafing me.
I don't go into the credit union or anything but I like that I have to keep a hawkeye on them. Forces me to look over my finances.
Also, they don't have free auto bill pay so that's a minus and still a plus. I never forget a payment is going to hit my account because I have to either write a check or go online to schedule them. That way I never go below my balance unless I'm being completely stupid.

I, too, LOVE my credit union. After bouncing a couple checks in college and getting burned in the aftermath by my giant bank, I switched to the no-nonsense credit union and haven't looked back. I'm now in a different part of the country, with another credit union, but they're just as awesome. No fees for anything (unless I screw up and need an overdraft, but even then, they've removed the fee for me!), and unlike the previous commenter, I can do online banking and auto-payments. Love it!
