I'd go ahead and write the three sample articles and see how that went. Is it more or less difficult and time-consuming than you fear?
And then try to get ahead as much as possible so that you have several stories set up in case of emergency (like those ends of summer).
When I get freelance offers that are better than what I have on my plate already, I try to see what I can get rid of to make room in my schedule for the thing I want to do.
Don't know if this will work for you, but it's a thought!
It sounds like a wonderful opportunity. I say you should take the job, it sounds like a career-building move. And can you reduce the amount of time you spend freelancing on other projects instead? Whatever you decide, good luck!
