You guys having fun?

Gravatar Nice post, Issac.

Let me approach this more or less the way baseball scholars approach the Baseball Hall of Fame discussions.

1. As to your 1st, 2d, and 3rd points, has any other band been admitted to the HOF primarily because it embodied any of the virtues you listed? I'm not saying (for example) that inventing alternative rock is not a worthy accomplishment (although I do have some doubts that BS actually "invented" alt-rock). What I am really wondering is whether inventing alt-rock, making protest music accessible, or pioneering metal ballads are accomplishments that HOF voters have prized in the past? I suspect (although I am not sure) that the answer is no.

2. I have grave doubts that your 4th and 5th points resonate deeply with HOF voters. Let’s just say that in my own discussions of the R+R HOF, the “smokers' wing style” issue has NEVER come up.

3. As to your 6th point, in the R+R HOF peak value matters more than career value. See, e.g., Dusty Springfield.

Gravatar I can't give you Snowblind as a protest song. It seems more like Ozzy's shopping list to me.

Gravatar 1. BS didn't invent altrock, The Velvet Underground did.
2. Accessible protest rock for non-hippies that pre-dates BS? The Monkees and CCR, to mention two.
3. Heavy metal ballads suck donkey dicks and are not rock and roll. If BS invented them, they deserve to be banned from the HOF forever.
4. Vis a vis devil stuff: BS were copying the Stones.
5. Nope: http://www.bluecheer.us/
6. They were never anywhere near great:

Gravatar Black Sabbath was a rip-off of CREAM, period.

Gravatar any idea why "laguna sunrise" and not "lagoon sunrise" ? do they refer to one precise laguna ? ( Venice ? )
