Always a pleasure reading your thoughts. And related to that...

The practice of covering or denying standards as a public censure dates back to at least Roman times----

Gravatar This is the heart of the whole story:

"recognition that the individual is ultimately responsible for his actions"

That's one view of the universe.

The other is that the world encompasses two types: victims and victimizers. In this world-view the victims are never responsible. As we continue to expand the roster of victims to include: blacks, hispanics, gays, union members, anybody who has a job, women, environmentalists, fat people, people who exercise regularly, people who breath the air, etc., we get two effects. Exhibit A is the complete irresponsiblity displayed by the Democrat party establishment with respect to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Prominent Democrats were full of criticism of the President, but they utterly failed to offer any constructive ideas/alternatives. This amounts to a total abdication of responsibility. Where are the adults in the Democratic party?

To this day, the Democrats are
