Or just maybe the appearances of Frist and Robert like angry puffed up poison toads suggests that the GOP is miffed at least in part because their plans to orchestrate the environment and timing for the release of this report have been all screwed up now?
No? All those sanctimonious objections are pure unadulterated high-mindedness? Bully!
But notice that as a result of Reid's stunt, everyone now knows when this report is going to be released, and a bunch of people are talking about it, wondering what it will say, and thus eagerly awaiting its appearance.
Whatever you think of Reid, you have to admit he is showing a truly Gingrichian ability to get under the skin of the GOP majority with such guerilla marketing tactics.

Reid is showing a unique ability to hang ten on the front of the Titanic.
Class, integrity, responsibility to duty...all absent.
I already knew that the part two of this latest report was due soon. If I knew it, I bet the members of the senate knew it, too - even if the democrats declined to meet in committee about it when they were invited some months ago.
I read the senate calendar (infrequently) but have already read the 9/11 commission report, and the findings of the Senate Intelligence oversight committee from last year on this same subject.
Senator Reid is uniquely suited to man the helm of the senate democratic caucus in that he comes from a state that survives on the leavings of people who visit KNOWING THEY WILL LOSE THEIR SHIRTS.
I can understand him being overwrought with the whole CIA coup thing falling to pieces, on top of the Cindy Sheehan Road Show getting bumped by the Bush Kills Black People In New Orleans before she could really Speak Truth To Power...
The Democrats have demonstrated ONE THING with any consistency at all for the last thirty years: they can't win national elections in a marketplace where ideas and results are measured honestly. Bill Clinton doesn't count - he's more a race doping veternarian who knew how to get two more races out of a dying horse than he was ever a democrat. I wonder if he's got the guts (or compassion?) to explain the political reality of today's political landscape to Hillary! before or after she divorces him...?
What's left to try now? Pray for Libby to turn into some kind of state's witness - where there is no evidence in his indictment remotely related to the primary contention that Valeri Plame was outed for political purposes? The economy just refuses to collapse. And those damned Iraqis and Afghani bastards are moving closer to true autonomy EVERY FUCKING DAY.
BTW, what would you say if I told you that by the middle of next summer we'll have reduced our combat strength in Iraq by about fifty percent? Barring having to take out Iran, of course. It could happen. By projecting the current rate at which Iraqi towns are becoming self-policing now, even discounting the acceleration to stability inherent in functioning, effective, local government replacing foreigners (however well meaning), the need for large combat formations is apt to decline pretty precipitously over the next six to nine months.
Unless those damned brown people can't handle freedom, of course. One can always hope, if one's interests lay in that direction, I guess.
Sorry for the rant tone, here; just got finished watching the forces of enlightened progressivism trying to burn an Argentine policeman on FOX.
Sides. Everybody gets to choose.
See you in 2006, and '08. We'll see how well Mr. Reid does then. If he's still got a party, of course.
