Oh no. I try to always use them correctly, but I know I probably goof sometimes.

Don't judge me on my bad typing and grammar!


The rule is easy -- if the word after 'a' has a vowel sound, use 'an'. For example:

"It's an honor to be here."
"It's a historic moment."

Typos and simple mistakes are easy to dismiss in a blog, for me anyway. But in business correspondence, I show very little mercy.

That someone saw the need to post such a simple rule in a business environment is what I found alarming.


I had to illuminate this oh-so-tricky distinction for an entire room full of my superiors recently. I'm with you, this is pretty basic stuff. sigh.
