Gravatar This is what scares me about placing my mom in a nursing home and why I've chosen to live with her as long as possible.

Not sure if you've ever seen my other blog, Alheimer's Moments...I changed the "Homepage" link below on this comment so you can click over. I try to keep it amusing with funny Mom stories. Sometimes it's the only way I keep myself sane!

Gravatar NOT funny at all...Gary's Mom died of the disease, and I can't even imagine this happening. As a nurse, I thought I'd heard it all!

Gravatar Ewwww. I read the story. Disheartening to say the least. My grandmother was abused in a nursing home too. She was suffering from dementia, so I guess the "caretaker" felt she too would never be found out. My mom went almost daily to the home to make sure my grandmother was receiving competent care. My mom's mistake? She almost always went during the lunch hour, and seldom was there when the abuse was taking place. The worker in question was one that my mom trusted, and she had purchased gifts for her on several occasions. My mom felt betrayed. She never would tell me exactly the extent of what had occured to my grandmother.

Gravatar Were there no other competent adults around who would be aware of this behavior?? I have had some of my hospice patients in nursing homes and some of the staff I doubt were ever investigated about anything before hiring as they have such a large turn-over in staff and are often so short-handed. What a tragedy, but Albert Lea is no different than any other city with everything teens and others see on TV or whatever media they are watching. Aunt Phyl

Gravatar You can't even imagine the fury I felt after this story came out given that my dad was in a nursing home for so long. I hope they lock those little evil little tramps up for a long, long time.
