no, they're not toxic raw.

The only thing you need to look out for is making sure that you clean them out really well because dirt likes to hide in all the little spaces

I agree with Valerie - your photos are looking fantastic these days! I love this pesto pasta idea - it's the perfect time of year for it. I just made some cilantro-arugula-pastachio pesto with olive and avocado oils and some jalapeno that I grow on my fire escape. So good! reminded me of guacamole, acutally.
