I didn't miss the point. I used the Blaine Cook/IsMikeArringtonADick incident to explain why I don't read TechCrunch. Arrington's treatment of Blaine Cook is the latest in a long line of fairly nauseating actions from Arrington.
Nauseating incidents may be acceptable if TechCrunch were good the rest of the time - but it's not. It's dull, and in the coverage of Web 2.0 / Silicon Valley startups, Arrington doesn't add much value compared to any other blogger - certainly not enough to justify over 800,000 subscribers. The negative reaction that the Blaine Cook incident is bringing is - I'm hoping - going to reduce the importance of TechCrunch - which will be better for the web, since the selection pressure of getting covered on TechCrunch will be less valuable. Look back at the post on TechCrunch a while back about
accessibility. Read the commens and think: is
this the environment we want shaping the efforts of entrepreneurs and VCs? I vote no.
As for not everyone getting it? That's a risk I'm willing to take. This is a blog after all.
