I'm not a supporter of violence or guns (especially not guns!) and I doubt it would help here. Guns give a sense of security which they don't provide. I think it would be more damaging rather than helping her. Nevertheless what happened was horrible and unfortunately I don't have an answer either...

We keep hearing about "Freedom of speach" but being responsible for your actions, even what you say, does not curtain freedom of speach one bit. What I have always said has now been proved, the open system of the internet/usenet will only work with responsible people and unfortunately there are a lot out there that aren't. The internet should be made such that it is impossible for anyone to post annonomously.
Any missuse/swearing/threats etc should result in immediate withdrawl of service from the ISP and an entry in a "Black List" so that person/location has a great deal of difficulty getting back online. These sad people might then learn an important life lesson.
