It's getting ridiculous. The Irish government has a relatively well-managed fund that's supposed to cover the deficit, but we're still not doing enough to resolve the situation.
I love work, and I can't imagine retiring completely at 55 or 65. It drives me crazy to see people who have so much to contribute to society retiring at such young ages.
Yes, it's their choice, but not when they expect younger generations to pick up the cheque.
That looks like an interesting blog, Damien. I'll probably subscribe to it later. The situation is so messy here - women retire at 60, men at 65 (gender equality, right?) now, but we aren't going to get retirement to at least 68.

I picked up the book in Logan Airport, and pretty much devoured it between the airport wait and the flight home. No harm to the blog, but the book is much more interesting. I'd offer to post you my copy, but I can't seem to find it around here. Buried up to my eyeballs in O'Reilly books at the minute!
I'm very much in favour of a state-controlled social welfare system, including retirement benefits, but it's ludicrous that we are expected to fund entitlements that we ourselves won't be receiving.
I also believe it would be unfair for us to claim benefits that the generation behind were funding, but not receiving.
