I'm already reading over at Less than 50, but it hasn't made it to my blogroll. I'm just confused by the "dates" of his posts... the year seems off.
Oh. And I agree about the whole HIV test thing. I only agreed and asked for the test when I thought (and knew) that it would come back positive.
You have to be ready for THAT answer before you ask for the test. At least, I did.

Hey Tom,
Didn't you feel that Newsweek article was kind of weird? It seemed to be saying that AIDS maybe wasn't so bad because it brought out our compassion. To that I say: BFD! They at least included the Larry Kramer quotes to balance it out, but the douche writer must have been feeling particularly rosy about old AIDS. Maybe it's just me, but I found it distasteful in that respect.

I don't know JD.
Maybe I was in a particularly good mood when I read the article, but that's not what I got from it. Rather, that if you try to find good in anything tragic, at least AIDS was responded to with compassion from a lot of Americans. Although I'm not sure how much I even agree with that.

During Ronald Reagan's funeral, the fawning adulation made me want to puke. His attitude--which can charitably be described as "Let the faggots die"--amounted to a crime against humanity and a declaration of war against a significant part of his own nation.
In 1980, I had finally gotten up the courage to come out and had begun getting my feet wet in the gay world. Even when AIDS struck, I felt there was no turning back. I was careful and I made it through, but it was so scary and to this day I feel deeply the loss of a massive number of wonderful gay men.
