This is a good one, Toni. It's hard to understand the hostility of some toward the military.
There is a grade school a few blocks away from me. One class of little ones sent supportive letters to a soldier from our city who was serving in Iraq.
Soon after his return, he came to the class to tell them about his experiences and to thank the kids for what they wrote or drew.
He told the children that he carried the letters with him while in Iraq. For emphasis, he said, "I'm not shittin' you! Look, I have some on me right now." Then he reached into his inside breast pocket and pulled out some of the letters.
Of course, the teacher and the mom I know who was in the room were a little bit worried that the kids would notice that one word, but, not a chance, the kids were in awe of this guy - as they should be - and it didn't faze them.

What a sweet story. Those are lucky kids to have someone take the time to come and talk to them even if they did write letters. What a special guy.
