I have been very frustrated with our local Red Cross' apparent determination to spend money rather than to use locally offered services. As I said in one of my entries, it seems to me that putting evacuees in motel rooms, rather than private homes, is to further ghettoize their situation. It also sanitizes the response, thus allowing the better-off to throw money at the problem without having to actually live with poor folks.

I haven't given the American Red Cross money since 9/11 because of the way they handled the record-breaking amount of donations they took in at that time.
