The connection between Able Danger and the NSA monitoring is that the Dems are trying their best to protray
them as rogue operations, stepping all over "civil liberties".
I find it interesting that the "outrage" by the Left over the Patriot Act began during the 911 Ommission hearings. Once participants from the Able Danger program came forward to testify the
Clintonistas knew they were going to have a big problem sooner or later.
Hence the strategy - the police state tactics of the Bush Admin must be established. Recall that they were successful in having the DOD shut down the data mining by Adm Poindexter.
These are all beging made "rogue" programs and therefore suspect.
Bottom line the Dems are saying
"DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT YOU SEE OR HEAR"

Too much conspiracy theory. Why not just look at a very simple explanation? To wit, in fact, the classified ABLE DANGER files came from the NSA surveillance and if that (ABLE DANGER) information were retained and then EXAMINED by investigators that the NSA source would have been inevitably identified. Thus, the DOD lawyers saw that blowing the cover on the NSA effort was far more damaging to National Security than maintaining the files of ABLE DANGER.
