Ah, there's the rub. You cannot connect the dots in one agency, because our libertarian angst prevents such a secret spy agency that could spy into us, too.
I'm not sure what we do about this.
I am thinking a change in the constitution that goes to the heart of the matter-- Change the first amendment, so that any speech or writing that advocates the violent overthrow of the government of the USA is no longer protected. One thing you cannot do in free speech: advocate the violent overthrow of the government.
That might take care of some of the Islamist threat from within this country. However, we are still left with the external threat, and it won't touch that. Further, we have open borders and some Muslims plan to out-breed us and use our fredoms to take us over at the ballot box.


Jim, what've you been smoking man? You can't yell "Fire!" in a crowded movie theater, either. No need for a constitutional amendment on any of this, so I don't see your point here.
