Nice to see that people with brains still have beating hearts and effective keyboards.

Great job in pulling all this together, Mike. Lots of people have asked me why I haven't yet offered a rebuttal of the DOD IG report, given my many posts on the AD controversy. I have replied that while (as noted above) "such a rebuttal in detail is certainly possible," I didn't understand why so many people were taking the DOD 'investigation' at face value. Now, however, I can simply refer them to this post!

To play the devils advocate --

Doing massive data mining before 9/11, and then looking hard at the data after 9/11 and finding that you had identified Mohammed Atta is one thing. However, one could also look hard at the pre-9/11 data after 9/11, and find that the data mining also identified that the Chicago Cubs lost in a baseball game the day before 9/11.

Was the Able Danger identification actually acted upon before 9/11? Certainly, the data mining process could have been valuable after 9/11 as an investigation tool, as well.
