Gravatar All true. But I'm still mightily annoyed at the penalty given to AK46 in the third. It was a bad call and I felt Nashville was trying (with frankly unconvincing results) to turtle in their own zone & Price had given us a shot at another cheap point or two.

Dammit.

Btw: Spacek obviously playing on one leg, Gionta out of the game, Ryan freaking White on the first line... To quote the four habs fans: the sky is falling!

Gravatar Boy do we need Markov and O'Byrne back.

Amazing stuff by Price, he has shown glimpses of how good he can be sometimes.

Gravatar How long did it take to pick forwards for the dome? I missed the second and third period, but from what I saw in the first it would have taken a keen eye to figure out which forwards were the "best" for us this game.

If Gionta is out long term as Mike Boone is suggesting, I think it's about time Gainey would admit his coach isn't the smartest man in the world and call up sk74. Is he going to ignite our offense and turn us into a contender like many are saying? No, but he gives us another top 6 forward, and a scoring threat that we desperately need.

Gravatar Maybe, just maybe Sergeď isn't ready yet.

Gionta on the DL means we have around 15 millions sitting on the DL. Oooof.

Gravatar Hey L.I.W.:

Is it possible not to select forwards for the dome? After a night like last night, I'm not sure anybody really deserved to be in there. If the backup goalie can be inserted after a brutal outing by the starter, can we not do something similar after outings like this? Maybe put some of the AHL prospects in the dome?

I kid! I kid!

But seriously, I'm starting to worry about the frequency with which Andrei is making the dome list. By my count he's made the dome 6 times. I'm not certain that any of these dome appearances occurred in a game that the habs have won (not they've won that many) and his lone goal up to the quarter point of the season was scored against the Pens in their 7-1 blow-out of the habs. He's currently tenth in points scoring on the team.

I don't hate Andrei, I want him to succeed and want that success to benefit the Habs. But the guy is stinky, stinky so far this season. I can understand making the argument that the team sucks as a whole right now and Andrei's looking good by comparison. I can understand that many are justifiably incensed that he's been bounced around a bunch of lines so far and isn't seeing the top line minutes we want him to. It's a chicken and egg problem I know, but I'm hard pressed to think that 25% of the time this season I want A.K. on the ice--as as opposed to thinking that there are other players I can't have on the ice.

And no, I don't want to talk about Gui! and Laps, mostly because I never had much hope in them in the first place.

Sigh. We need a statement game against Carolina on Tuesday.

Gravatar "Sigh. We need a statement game against Carolina on Tuesday."

That is so sad. So true. But so, sooo sad.

Gravatar Tobalev:

-wasn't part of the BS Gainey was offering as rationale for the July cleanup was that these guys were more durable ? seems to me Gill, Spacek and Gionta where touted as younger and more durable

-there's a saying "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me"

-well I wasn't fooled by Gainey and Gauthier in July nor am I now...it was a set of moves made in desperation and this Team is in sucking mode beyond even the biggest Gainey apologist could have imagined

-as Andrea Bocelli sings "Con Te Partiro" ...translation "time to say goodbye"....time for Molson to change GMs once he comes on board officially Nov 26-Dec 04

Gravatar Pfhabs, Gionta has missed a single game, and Spacek none. Sounds pretty durable to me. Considering the way Gionta plays especially, the fact that he plays over 50 games a year is astounding.

Gravatar I figured with the changes this team would be a .500 team after 20 games - and that was with Markov. Without him and now missing 4 regulars, I commend them for their resilence.

They are fighting hard (with the exception of a few games - every team has the odd stinker) and one loss away from .500. I see them getting better as injured players come back and they continue to learn to play together.

Gravatar I'd be happy to have less than 3 forwards in the dome. But our rule is that we must pick people dressed.

Halak up front? Probably not. So Andrei better than the 13 other guys who didn't make it? In this case, a very big yes.

The other thing for me with Kostitsyn is that, if you forget expectations for a minute, he has actually been among the top 3 forwards at least 5 or 6 times. Perhaps that's not saying much with Pacioretty, Stewart, Laraque, Lapierre, Chipchura and others playing at AHL level most nights, but it says something. Specifically, it tells me that he's not top of the list in the problem column.

Anyway, to echo V. We knew this would be an adjustment even before Markov got injured. With 9 wins in 20 starts, we're treading water here. It may be hard to wrap our minds around how long a season is, but letting up 55 shots to Nashville in November has no bearing at all on how March form takes shape. Just as we had to wait on Price to get rolling, so we must wait for the system and the players in it to master what they are being asked to do...
