Page Rank does not mean nothing, in my opinion is just marketing from google to keep people talking about them...
I know sites that are not listed at google and have page rank 4, and the owner have done nothing to increase the rank...

Simple question; Does PageRank pay the bills? Determining the success of your website by looking at PageRank or even where you rank for certain terms in search engines is a waste of time, IMHO. Your analogy of looking at the spark plugs to determine the wiiner of a race was spot on. Bottom line, are you getting qualified traffic to your site and are they converting? Focus on that and PageRank won't seem so important.

I dont think PageRank is the "be all and end all" regarding SEO, but its a small indication that you sites doing OK.

I think users like to know that they are not alone in reading a websites content - and pagerank seems to tell them, others like this special site.
So they themselves intend to relie on a site with higher pagerank -

looking for search results tell me what TopRank told us - ist just one of s lot of factors

I still like Pagerank. It might be just one factor, but if a website is gaining pagerank, it is quite likely it is also doing a good or at least better than average job on the other 200+ factors.
That doesn't necessarily apply to blogs. Lots of A list bloggers with PR7+ have horrible site optimization, and totally devalue their own content.

I think you hit the nail on the head. PageRank IS worth spending some time considering (as are spark plugs in a race car), but don't focus too hard on it.
