WAT A SHAME, i think its the second single that did it for me, if they had released luv, followed by 2nite, instead of rockwitchu, then it would hav been better for her..
oh well, i didnt even think the album was that hott!!!
but it was worthwile, at least it shud have done better than what it did now.

Yeah - Out of all the RNB albums I've bought/heard this year (Cherish/Mary/Usher/Mariah/Ashanti/Danity Kane/Day26) Discipline is bay far my favourite.
Oh well best to cut your losses and move on. Atleast hopefully we'll see another album from her, and soon!

I really thought that "Discipline" was going to be huge with the way people were talking about it.
It was deffinatly a solid album, and could have released a handful of singles from it, especially "Luv", "2Nite", "The 1" and "Rollercoaster".
I can't believe they didn't even do any promo what so ever for it in the coming months of its release. Pathetic. She should have performed at the Grammies if you ask me. Mariah was promoting E=MC2 in like January.
I'm really really interested in what will happen next, will she stay with Island? Will she give up on music? Who knows!
As for "Feedback", fuck knows why that flopped. It's one of the hottest tracks that has been out in a longgg longggg while. I still love it.

Sad sad sad!
Im mad at the label for doing that Man!Promoting Rihana ... over Janet?...
Im pissed really! Discipline was good! I was really looking foward to see the "luv" video.
Is she at least comming to Europe for the tour?

I'm mad 2nite won't be release! Yeah toya, so true, "Feedback" was a banger, in my opinion. I think after he tour, Janet should focus on acting and doing things behind the camera (directing, producing).

This is why planned promotion is important, whether you are an ESTABLISHED star or a new commer, the industry is fickle regardless.
Even a super star like Janet has label issues.
"Rock wit U" is a hot track, but NOT 2nd single worthy. A better strategy for Janet after having 2 or 3 back to back flops would have been to release:
Feedback + Roc with U at the SAME time as 1st single to diversify fan taste. They should have targeted dance oriented radio stations and done a ton of remixes, which they did, but no one barely heard them.
2Nite - Heavily promoted 2nd single with the hottest video of the year promotoed in both the US and Europe; great for the spring/summer; should have been an April/May release
Rollercoaster - PERFECT for the summer. Live performances to continue the promo would be nice for this song. A new strategy with the video should have been taken such as doing some type of creative video no one has probably ever done. In addition, partnering up with theme parks maybe would be great exposure for both Janet and the theme parks. I know it's cheesy, but in such a fickle industry, doing something like that would be unexpected...
"Luv" or "The 1" would be the possible last single released in Sept. It has an "All For You" vibe where I expect the video to be colorful just like that.
"Greatest Ex" or "Never Gonna Letchu Go" would be a great way to end off the album. A hot ass remix should be done for more uptempo club feel and Euro audience.
With all these 5 or 6 singles, a year would have gone by and the album would have sold at least 2 million, which is highly possible after 5/6 singles within a year time span of planned promo and WORK. 2 million would be a hit after her last couple albums failed HARD.
Discipline is a solid album. Personally, on the same level as Damita Jo no matter what anyone says -- that was a solid album because every track was well produced and Janet sounded good on them.
I"m not a hardcore Janet fan, but I am a hardcore music fan. I hate to see good music go unnoticed...I wish I could manage some of these artists myself because these labels are so fuckin' stupid.
I hate when labels do this....It really pisses me off because this has happened to many albums/artists that have a chance to re-establish their musical careers. What good is your music if no one is hearing it, no matter how great the material???

Poor Janet. Why can't she just spend her own money to promote. Im not exactly sure how it works, but couldnt she just pay for the video herself? Don't stop promoting just becasue ur record lable sucks. Think of your fans, DO IT FOR THE FANS JANET!!!!!!!!!!!

I know I'm beating a dead horse...but...
I blame her titty...the right one to be exact..........and that frumpy little gnome she f*cks every night....
Anyways, it would've made more sense to promote Janet, instead of that subpar skeezer who wrote "Vision Of Love". Her name alone, mediocre-ridden first single, and classic "comeback" record was enough to sell. Def Jam wasted money that could've been used for Janet! "Discipline" is still a great album. I'm just going to imagine her shooting videos for it in my head...

I do believe that it's the label's fault but come on. If Janet wanted more promotion she WOULD have got it! She's not new to the music industry, she's in for years and is one of the legends! She should be able to get what she wants!

she could very easily promote her album and shoot other videos with her money!! the bitch is just to PROUD and LAZY to do so... it's normal nowdays that the label won't give you all the money you want! but since you have dollars growing out of your ass you could spend it and make your fans happy!!
the same thing happened with beyonce...her label said she's done with promotion after the "listen" video and that they wouldn't give her anymore money...but beyonce couldn't care less!! she shot other 10 videos and made sure she and her album would be still HOT at least for another year. and that's why the beyonce fans are the most satisfied ones!! janet, take note!

Thats fucked up about the label and that was a hot project which should be spawning singles out of its ass. If the label is fucking with you: a) pay for shit yourself. Not more than 5 million, but you can do videos and getting on shows should be free.
A) get the songs out there anyway via the clubs, BJs you know
C) Leave voicemails on your websites calling the label out!
For whatever reason (well a lot of reasons I don't feel like explaining) Mariah usually gets what she and the fans want or atleast there's a compromise where its half and half. Like she said, "labels think they know what's hot, but they don't." Whoever said labels are so fuckin' stupid are right. I could have planned out the damn singles and then the damn songs that would return her international fanbase, but they fuck up. IBLULT is the only one they got right.
I thought IDJ was the place to be, but LA and everyone else fucked up with this. You don't stop an album because 2 groups can't agree. Especially at this point in a career and at her age, where this was probably her last chance. That was truly stupid.

The problem is not the labels, it's the internet and bootleggers.
The music industry will fall apart because most black folks in the USA don't buy albums. They download them for free or buy it at bootleg shop down the street. This is the effect of the industry and unfortunately Janet and many other artists are suffering now.

I agree with hysterical. The music industry is just so different now. And its probably gonna get worse. I was surprised that Rihanna only sold over 1 million records cuz she had like 5 hit singles. If this was the 90s she would've sold millions. No one can sell like Mariah and Celine did back in the day anymore.
But I feel bad for Janet. How many many unites did discipline sell?

2Nite was 100% a radio smash, and they fucked her over. Def Jam is wack these days.

It's a shame but at the same time, Janet needs to revamp her style and sound. She needs to work with someone who will change her up big time. She doesnt make magic with Jermaine or any of the Mariah and Usher producers. And i agree she needed to break ties with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. To me Janet's never been the one to go work with someone because of the work they did with other people. She needs to find someone new that can present their sound through her. Maybe Pharrell could revamp both of them, and she needs to have Kanye give her some crack music.

Her album and the producers aren't the prob, because 'Discipline' was a hot album. I think her promotion was all wrong and with an industry that's fickle and constantly changing, that's one thing they needed to be tight on. She should have been promoting 'Feedback' WEEKS before the album release, not at the last minute. They should have been promoting a MONTH in advance right up to the release, like they did with Leona Lewis (and she was a newcomer). But because of Janet's past history with poor sales and stuff, I guess they didn't think the chances were worth taking.

OH PLEASE, JANET NEEDS TO STOP MAKING EXCUSES! SHE COULD HAVE EASILY USED HER OWN MONEY AND PUSH THE PROJECT,IF SHE TRULY CARED FOR HER FANS. LIKE SOMEONE MENTIONED EARLIER,WHEN BEYONCE WANTED RELEASE MORE VIDEOS FOR HER FANS, HER RECORD LABEL SAID NO, BUT SHE WENT ALL OUT AND SHOT THE EXTRA VIDEOS,USING HER OWN MONEY,AND IT PAID OFF.BDAY SOLD 3MIL DOMESTICALLY AND 6MIL INTERNATIONALLY, WHILE 'THE BEYONCE EXPERIENCE TOUR DVD IS STILL ON THE CHARTS AFTER 6MONTHS,AND HAS ALREADY SOLD OVER 5MIL COPIES. JANET HARDLY PROMOTED HER NEW ALBUM,ONLY DID LAST MIN PROMOTIONS,PLUS SHE NEEDS TO REALIZE SHE CAN'T JUST DEPEND ON HER LEGENDARY STATUS AND NAME.I WONDER HOW SHE'S GOING TO EXPLAIN THE 3 ALBUM FLOPS IN A ROLE.

WELL AS FAR AS SINGLE CHOICES GO...
I THINK THEY FUCKED UP ON MARIAHS ALBUM AS WELL
TOuch My Body was just a bad first single choice...yeah it went to number one but its pretty much any song she released after TEOM would have gone to number one.
And Bye Bye is probably the 4th best ballad on the album.
I mean I think they made a mistake release Shut up and Drive for Rihanna as well but she managed to pull it together with the follow up singles...im hoping Mariah can do the same. Loving You Long Time which is probably the best song on her album is out next so we'll see if they get it right from now and do like Rihanna!!!

At hysterical:
Black folks are not the only people bootlegging cd's. They are many types of blogs which caters to different genres of music, where all kinds of people download the shit for free.
At Carmen:
You mention that no one can sell like Mariah back in the day but Mariah has never been an artist with huge first week sales. If you mean records sells over a period of time, then yes, she did fairly well. However, as far as first week sales go, E=MC2 is one of her best first week sales and it didn't even reach the 500,000 mark. You can blame this on the economy, which is certainly a reason or you can look at Mariah's sales history. I'm sure both have played a factor

I'll say it a million times but "Greatest X" should've been a single. Forget "Luv," "Rock With U" and all of those other bullshit songs. "Greatest X" is THE ONE that would've had non-Janet fans interested in her album. I feel bad for her fans. 3 miserable eras in a row. Who would've thought?

Discipline is not a good cd for an artist like Janet. If this were Ciara yes it would be good, but not for Janet. She has no one but herself and that troll shes with to blame for her CD's tanking. She has given him too much say so in her music. She should look up her greatest x ever Renee, so he can maybe set her back on track.
