Gravatar I still love Stranger In My House (Remix).

Gravatar Tamia is great! Me is my jam! It helped me through a relationship!

BTW has anybody heard Kat DeLuna's new single Calling You! Apparantly the lead single off her second album! It is mega hot!

Gravatar Tamia is one of the most gorgeous women in R&B, if not the most beautiful. I wonder if she could have been more successful, if she had done more promotion in Canada. Because when Canadian entertainers/athletes become successful, we always make such a big deal about it. Her and Deborah Cox.

Gravatar Tamia caught beyoncitis, thats why she's not that successful. She is beautiful and talented but in todays music world that's not gonna get you by for success.

Gravatar Not too crazy about Tamia, but I think she wasnt so big because it was not much room for her. Whitney was THE FIRST, then there was Toni, then Debrah and Tamia were playing catch up. This is similar to the Bubblegum Pop Movement, There was Britney and Christina First, and then there wasnt much room for Jessica and Mandy Moore! Tamia and Debrah were in that position!

Gravatar I just wanted to clarify that it was BET Jazz for future reference.

Gravatar It had to be BET because I know VH1 dont care for Tamia unless she was on one of those Has-been shows!

Gravatar tamia...who that....? she can sing..tho. stranger in my house was my joint!...brandy new single in a few weeks!!!

Gravatar tamia never made it cuz she was the sideline ho to music in her time...no one was checkin for her people already had they favorites.... and she wasnt standing out

toni, whitney, mariah

Gravatar *Falls asleep*.

Why is Brandy being mentioned in like every post? Is it the same person doing it? I'd laugh if the single sucked.

Gravatar Sorry about the italics.

Gravatar There's a BET logo in the corner. Plus, they did the same thing for the comedienne, Mo'Nique.

Anyways, this special was really touching! I didn't know much about Tamia outside of her most recent album, and some singles here and there (mainly the one with Fabolous and "Stranger In My House"). Never knew she had multiple sclerosis either...I just gained TONS of respect for this woman! A truly underrated artist!

And is it just me, but am I the only one who noticed Grant has some STRONG genes?

And his mother looks cold. Like, evil cold.

Gravatar Tamia is THE SHIT, and I've been a huge fan of hers throughout her entire career.

However... there is a VERY REAL difference between her vocal ability and that of a Whitney Houston.

Gravatar Yeah I made a mistake with the VH1. Lemme change that

Gravatar I'm sitting here watching all of these live performances of Tamia right now and it's making me even more mad that I can't see her concert next month.

This woman is amazing, and she sings every song live >>>>the actual record. How many people do you know can do that?

Every live performance is FLAWLESS

Gravatar Whitney Houston is a more powerful singer than Tamia or WAS, but as a powerhouse vocalist who always inputs raw emotion and soul into her music, I think she deserves the same appraisal to that of Celine, Mariah, Whitney and then some. She actually cared about the music, not being a product. Beyonce is talented and beautiful but she's a PRODUCT, whereas Tamia is a true ARTIST.

Gravatar Oh Toya, you've started something now. Have you got a death wish.

Gravatar

It's the truth. And I'll say it again motherfucker. Beyonce IS a PRODUCT.

Gravatar Toya has a very good point about Tamia being ranked up there with Whitney and them other people. And if the stans get upset at her comment, I'll e-slap the shit out of them! j/k

Gravatar Beyonce IS a product. I don't think that's even up for debate .

But that's what happens when you blow up. You become a brand.

Tamia would be a product if she were huge too.

Gravatar i got a question toya...if tamia is your fave...why is alicia keys in the banner?

Gravatar I love Alicia as well!

Gravatar "It's the truth. And I'll say it again motherfucker. Beyonce IS a PRODUCT"

I never really understood that! Thats like saying that Michael Jordan is just a face, but he has the rings to prove that he is a real athlete! Bey got the Grammies to prove that she is being taken seriously and she takes her craft serious. Why you didnt bring Rihanna up? I think she a better example!!!

Gravatar @ David, when I say Beyonce is a product, her music and image is MOULDED to sell records. She does music that's the IN thing or what she feels will sell. Her image is targeted towards white men. Her music also caters to the teeny bopper crowd, and instead of taking risks and doing something different from everybody else, she'll jump on what's hot. She is afraid to take risks She will work with producers that EVERYONE else is working with. And if a certain sound is hot she'll jump on it. For instance, Rihanna's latest sound - the dance/euro-pop/synth music has become huge. Nelly Furtado wavered it with 'Loose' and then you had Good Girl Gone Bad, Britney's 'Blackout' and now Michelle Williams 'Unexpected'. Even Chris Brown and Ne-yo are jumping on it. Beyonce is an opportunist which is why she's considered a product in my oppinion. A REAL artist doesn't jump on trends. They stay true to their music/roots. I mean, Alicia's latest album is her most commercialized to date but she still kept the soul and R&B. She didn't do a U-Turn. She successfully expanded her fanbase WITHOUT alienating her original one.

Gravatar "Bey got the Grammies to prove that she is being taken seriously and she takes her craft serious."

Rihanna got a Grammy, also. Just saying

Gravatar "A REAL artist doesn't jump on trends."

P-R-E-A-C-H

Gravatar LOL!

Gravatar @Mike

Oh your right, my bad! DAMN

Gravatar The Grammy's are shit at this point. They have their old school favorites and don't give a fuck

Gravatar @Toya

I agree to an extrnt but seeing as how Tamia was not as Big as Whitney or Mariah or didnt have Hits like them then she will always be low key, but the thing is she's similar to them and not everyone who sound like them will have their type of success!

Gravatar Okay Toya, i must debate with you on this.

Beyonce came out in a girl group that was never considered R&B, but more on the lines of Pop! No NO NO, was geared to be radio friendly, but when you opened up their album, they shoved raw emotion, melodies, & lyrics at you, which was targeted twoard a universal R&B pop crowd.

They then tried their luck with pop, BILLS BILLS BILLS, Say My name, BUG A Boo, which became their trade mark, When something isn't broken why try to fix it, better yet improve...

Survivor was the next product, which followed by R&B twist on Pop singles, "Emotions"..So it's always been their thing to mix R&B with POP.

What is being said is, Beyonce has remained true to who she is, but when everyone else tries to pick up your trends, that's when it's seen as the new "It" thing, and people forget where the originality came from.

Then you mention Tamia, who tried her radio friendly single "grown woman" or Alicia Keys who has been trying to incorporate Beyonce's stage performance into hers, since "Karma".

Music is forever evolving. In order to stay on top, you must adapt to change.

You can see alot of people don't do well in their careers, because they try to remain with what worked 30 yrs ago!!!!

In order to have Cher, Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, Barbra Streisand's longevity, you must learn how to keep ahead of trends of evolve yourself into them.

"Caught out there" wasn't as successful as Ring The Alarm, but Kelis claims she was the first to scream on a track.

Jessica Simpson, hasn't been Britney Spears, but she claims to have just as much talent.

You have to learn to give people what they are yearning to experience.

Gravatar Who said that Whitney or Mariah Carey are the ultimate vocalist in everyone's opinion?

Tamia, just dosen't have any songs that garner the success as, Vision of Love, Always be my baby..etc.

But she is a powerful vocalist, in her own right.

Gravatar I get what you're saying but it all seems a bit blatant. Not every style of music will suit every artist. Madonna hopped on the Urban/Timbaland bandwagon and Hard Candy is one of her worst selling albums to date. A certain direction will not work for everyone. That is all I'm saying. And Beyonce is soooo much better than that as well.

Gravatar ""Caught out there" wasn't as successful as Ring The Alarm, but Kelis claims she was the first to scream on a track."

She was too stupid to think that mainstream America was ready to accept an angry black woman with a blonde & pink fro screaming about a man cheating on her. "Ring The Alarm" wasn't that successful either, to be honest. Irrelevant to the debate, but I just felt the need to say that

Gravatar TOYA check this out I know for a fact that u will be pleased! its MYA singing and practising 4 her broadway debut in chicago. This was before she got injured months ago. Gravatar Toya

Hard Candy Flopped because she's getting old and she picked a TRASH second single!

Gravatar On topic: Tamia is wonderful.

Off topic: While Beyonce does go with "what's in," I think she actually enjoys the music she makes. Furthermore, unlike Rihanna, Beyonce is actually an entertainer. People want to see her dance, and I, for one, think her music should reflect that. Why make an album of ballads when you have the ability to cartwheel and backflip onstage? And while Beyonce's music may reflect what's hot at the moment, she comes with an originality that no other mainstream artist comes with. Why is that? Because she's a musical big dog!

Gravatar I hear what you're sayin Toya. I just feel Beyonce takes a lot of risks with her art, and that's also why she gets a lot of backlash.

Petitions online because of her choice of art direction for Deja Vu. And the fact that she even chose Deja Vu when it sounded like nothing else on the radio, and it was completely unique.

Ring The Alarm was unlike anything else out, and it wasn't received well (still debuted at #11 on the charts).

Irreplaceable was totally unique, and it spawned everybody and they grandma trying to recreate it.

Crazy In Love used a go-go sound that had not been popularized in mainstream music.

I think she is a trendsetter. But I also think Beyonce is a product in the sense that she purposely targets to make her music sell, as opposed to just creating art, and letting it sell on it's own. But if we're being honest, every single artist that sells any amount of records does the same thing for the most part.

Gravatar @David

I agree with you said but I mostly thought that when people say Bey is a product, I thought they meant about her being so commercial and endorsements and what not. I just saw it as coming with the success of her in her profession!

Gravatar I agree David. At times she isn't that original but she always takes risks. The biggest difference between artists like Tamia and artists like Beyonce is their ambition. Some are satisfied with makin art while others want to show it to as many as possible.

Gravatar Zichra, WOW! Words to think about! That was deep!!!

Gravatar Umm... thanks? lol

Gravatar Zichra,

That really was food for thoughT, and I like how you managed to incorporate Tamia in your observation. Well put LOL.

Gravatar Ya'll made some great points. It's nice we can have a discussion about Beyonce (even if we disagree) and keep things civilized. The trolls/stans must have went on vacation today.

Gravatar Naw, the stans just don't know that we're in here discussing Beyonce. Had this been a post about Rihanna, they'd be in here breaking dishes LOL.

Gravatar @Zichra

Oh no, it wasnt Sarcasm!

Gravatar she sang you put a move on my heart when she was 18, what?!! unreal... thanks for putting this up.

Gravatar i agree with toya totally...i love the fact tamia has stayed doing the music she loves....and the fact she hasnt become a product...LOVE HER!!!

Gravatar Tamia does the music she loves, while Beyonce makes 27 million dollars a year recording music that's in. To each his own, but recording what's hot has made Beyonce one of the biggest international superstars in the world. I think that's pretty impressive. Furthermore, I had no idea Beyonce recorded music she hated...

Gravatar hey. "young one" 7:28 pm. i agree with you on that. but i also think you can say. the same thing about.

aaliyah

brandy

debelah morgan

monica

veronica

mona lisa etc..

Gravatar toya just wanna know who are your top 3 best musical artist of all time that u think there talents are larger than life. well in terms of there music, dont consider the production performance, its just that all about there music and vocal ability. come on i wanna know. hihihi

Gravatar To David aka DMV is in LA! I agreed with you until the go-go satement. Amerie was the first to use that style, and Bey jakcked it. She has a work ethic like no other, but originality, I think not. She; like others had already stated, jumps on whatever is hot at the moment. She is a product, nothing more. SHe does love what she does though, but I think that a lot of performers love what they do.Tamia is one of my favorites though. Her voice is amazing,a dn she gives her all with every performance. SHe does not need to be huge, she has a solid fan base.

Gravatar Na, Crazy In Love came out first, Then Amerie did the Go-Go thing. She had Rich Harrison first, but she never had a Go-Go track until One Thing, BUT CIL was out first and then J-Lo and Amerie went to Rich to give them a track like CIL! Rich said that none of his ppl liked the CIL beat but it became his BIGGEST HIT! He gave it to Bey first. Sorry LOL!!!

Gravatar Awww..I'm mad that I missed this because I don't feel like watching segments on the comp! Maybe later...I do like Tamia, and wish she could get more shine

Gravatar Tamia is seriously one of the most beautiful and talented women in the world. Real talk.

The difference between Tamia and Beyonce is that Beyonce is a product like everyone has previously mentioned. Tamia is satisfied controlling her own music and such. Beyonce has had her Daddy every step along the way...Tamia seems to have been SELF MADE from the beginging. If Beyonce's dad hadn't been there early in her career and continues to be there in her best interest, especially while she was in with DC3, I can't imagine her being the international superstar that she is today.

Tamia is authentic. Nothing against B, but it is what it is. She is a product and continues to struggle with being real and honest with making the music she loves while taking minimal risks WHILE jumping on the bandwagon. She has a ton of haters and for everyone one, she has a zillion fans. The approach has worked for her and I think she's fine with that. No real judgements against either women.

If I had to pay between seeing either, I would want to see both live. But my first pick would be Tamia because I know I'll be getting an intimate show with raw big talent and quality music. If I want pure entertainment with big vocals and an entire show, that's what the Beyonce ticket is for.

In terms of sex appeal, Tamia wins hands down. After even watching the BET REAL DIVA special on youtube, Tamia is struggling with a disease and remains sexy while doing so. I've always thought she was a natural beauty. Beyonce is all about horse hair and looks boring without makeup. Tamia stays fly physically. I remember getting hard everytime I saw her in the video for "Officially Missing You," haha. Oh, high school days.

Gravatar @ Young One

Phew... lol.

Gravatar This is an insult to Tamia

Gravatar i've always admired artist who dared to be different such as brandy tamia aaliyah and monica(at times)....when you do somethin that makes u happy and u don't care what the pop-world has to say then to me ur a true artist bcuz ur makin music to make music and not to make money...but tamia was awesome she is so genuine and pure to me i love her voice..i swear its like an angel even on up-tempo tracks she sounds so sweet..(forgive me for my abbreviations)lol

Gravatar and i forgot janet jackson

Gravatar What makes Aaliyah,Monica,Brandy, or Tamia different from...

Kelly price, Mini R., Billy Holiday, Nivea, Toni Braxton, SWV, or Envouge? They're all R&B artist.

Beyonce incorporates R&B & Pop to make a unique sound. Fast singing over simple tracks, has become her trademark, that everyone has tried to emobody.

If Matthew would not have been Beyonce's manager, and she was still as successful, who would people credit for her success then?

Tony Mortolla should be credited for Mariah Carey, and her becoming the biggest saling female artist !

Dolly should be credited for Whitney's success!

You have to be apart of a team or try something different in order to succeed. Beyonce has managed to make a career for herself.

People forget that CIL was out before Amerie's One thing. People forget that Apple Pie la'mode was heard throughout Amerie's album. So, let's not debate on music diversity!

Gravatar If you listen to the song "tonight" on Amerie's first album, she was the FIRST to use go-go. Bey copied it. Sorry, but it is true.

Gravatar oh yeah, also, ring the alarm was a straight jack from Kelis' style. Bey is no trend setter. Sorry.

Gravatar "If you listen to the song "tonight" on Amerie's first album, she was the FIRST to use go-go."

Are you talking about "Need You Tonight"? If so, that has a totally different vibe from "CIL". Amerie didn't do the whole upbeat go-go crap until she got that nose fixed (lol).

Gravatar Hell No LOL! I heard that song and it dont sound like CIL! Sorry. I know Beyonce aint on no Michael Jackson Level as far as trend setting BUT, I cant say she just follows anything thats out.

:No one was doing the fast speed-singing flow thing before DC!
:Rich Harrison said that he didnt try to sell the CIL beat to anyone before Bey called him!
:Bey gave Swizz Beats his First Billboard Hot 100 #1 hit ever and was the first R&B/Pop Artist to work with him! I'm not saying he is on Quincy status BUT if she just goes with the flow like everyone says then why didnt Timbo & Stargate produce half of her album? Swizz was not so popular outside of Hip Hop!
:And not too long ago everyone wanted a song that sounded just like Irreplaceable.

Like she's not on MJ status but I cant say she just jumps on Whatever is hot all the time!

Gravatar OH YA'LL CUT IT OUT AND KEEP IT ABOUT TAMIA..

Gravatar How can you keep it about Tamia, when the blog creater, is trying to diss Beyonce! Tamia, is a good artist. Beyonce has made it far, and I hate when someone tries to down someone who worked so hard to make a name for themself, and did nothing to demean anyone else to get far.

Gravatar JUST HOW U WERE DOWNING OTHERS JUST TO MAKE BEYONCE LOOK GOOD...THATS WHY I SAID CHANGE IT BCUZ EVERYWHERE I GO THERE'S A BEYONCE STAN AND ANOTHER ARTIST'S HATER...

Gravatar LMAO @ toya, always trying to drag beyonce's name through mud!!! plus going by your description of an artist being a product. That title fits Rihanna to a tea!! rihanna is the perfetc example of a gimmick product!!! plus FYI, any artist selling music to mass,is a product!!!it all depends on, who has more control over their. as it is beyonce controls her own brand. unlike rihanna who's still a puppet for def jam.

Plus Tamia might a fanstatic singer, but she's not on whitney and mariah's vocal level, especially during the early 90s.

Gravatar @Anonymous | 07.19.08 - 1:46 am | #

AMEN!!!!

leave it to toya and her band of haters to always start some shit. as if it's beyonce's fault that tamia didn't get big!!! plus why folks still tryna pass old tired lie of amerie being the first to use the gogo sound?!? especially when 'crazy in love' came out way befor'1 thing'. even rich harrison always stated that beyonce took a risk with that unpopular and brought it back to mainstream. soem of y'all just blatantly lie, just because u dislike an artist.sad!

Gravatar Cackles @ 'you put a move on my heart' being challenging. there's nothing challeging compare to a whitney or mariah soings.now their song requires serious vocal chops.

Gravatar I feel like some of these singer. are nothing but.

jezebels

sappheres

mariarchs

tragic mulattos

Gravatar First of all, the go-go music that Amerie and Beyonce' had on their albums is not the real go-go.If you live in DC, you know exactly what I'm talking about. You people don't know what you talking about.Please.Go-go sound?Hell to the Naw.

Like someone said Beyonce' is a product. She will always be one until she speaks for herself.

Focusing on Tamia.Wow, she has lots of courage and strength. She has always been my favorite artist among the most popular ones today. She hold something special. And if Tamia was just as famous, I think she won't let it get to her head. When you start giving titles like "Hottest In The Game" then to me,your just a product.

Gravatar No one was ever downing tamia. No one ever said, Tamia could not sing. People refuse to see beyonce for who she is. Beyonce originality, is liked by masses, so that makes her a product. Everyone who is an entertainer is a product. You're hoping for someone to buy your product, which is you!!

Beyonce's manufacturer, just happens to be a better team, than the majority. Alot of people say she sells out to the whites, because of her blonde hair. When she dyed her hair chestnut brown or black, what was the excuse then. You wanted her to be more dark skinned? Beyonce is who she is, and can't not help her sex appeal, along with her God given talent. Her humbleness, ambition, & creative genes, is what makes Beyonce!

Gravatar Yes I am talking about that song, and it does use the go-go sound. Every song that use that sound does not sound the same, and Amerie used it first.
Rich and Amerie even said it in an interview that they did when she first came out, that it was a popular sound used in DC. This is before CIL even came to be, Beyonce was on her first solo album. Sorry, but Amerie was the first to do it. Bey probably commercialized it, but no, she was not the first.

Gravatar DC is not the first to use the go go sound. if you all want to take it back to "the Eagles" if you want to go back to 1960 when it was popular in California, and then someone stretched it across the ocean to England. Then Virgina caught on from NC. DC just caught on to the sound. CIL wasn't much go-go to me!!

Gravatar ki

Gravatar hmmm

Gravatar Aw, Bay still stole Kelis' style though, ya'll can argue agains tit all day, but it is true. She did not set any trend, she copied from a lot of different artists, I say she copied mostly form Shakira, and Kelis, thinking that no one would notice. The day she does something original is the day Jay -z does the right thing and come out of the closet.

Gravatar I meant Beyawnce. ( I typed Bay).

Gravatar hmmm
