first of all...the usa are not the world! it may went to #1 there but in the rest of the world it was a flop (and that's why her album by its 4th week was out of the top50 in almost every country). and even in the states it can't be considered a big hit, since it sold barely 1M downloads in more than 4 months.. .a song to be considered a hit nowdays has to sell 2-3M digital downloads (ask rihanna, timbaland, fergie and dozens of other artists). and songs that were released at the same time as TMB, like 4 minutes, are still selling and in the top10. and besides that, TMB was a very poor lead single (followed by even a more mediocre 3nd single) in the states since her album is taking more than 2 months to reach platinum status, which can't really be considered a success for her standards and coming from a 6x platinum album. . .she'll be lucky if she reaches 2M with emc2. so you do some research since you obviously don't know what you talkin about.
Opinions on this album, single choices, and everything else Mariah related is beyond mixed. Nobody has a common opinion on anything.

Ring the Alarm was irritating at best.
To top it all off: that whole thing about remaking (or should I say ruining) Des'ree's "Kissing You" pretty much eclipsed whatever credibility Bey gained with her tenure in DC and her first album.
Anon, you really didn't like her rendition of Still In Love (Kissing You), I loved that one, even though it was pulled from the tracklisting a couple weeks later to her not having the legal support of having the song on the album, I was lucky to get B'Day Deluxe Edition with it on there.
I have to admit though that there was little versitality between each song.

After Lights Go Out, Star Cry is my favourite track off the album. Infact they're the only two tracks I was feelin', but I didn't really sat down and listened to it in full without skipping or stopping yet so who knows, maybe it's not as bad as I think? I SO wanted it to be a big album cos I heart Foxy and have ALL her cd's. Chyna Doll still gets heavy rotation on my stereo.
The rest of the album was either dull to me, didn't have a good melody to go along with her voice, or even good lyrics at that. She really should have delivered like Trina did.

I'm gonna have to throw my 2 cents in on this Beyonce topic. People (you know who you are) really need to quit trying to dismiss Beyonce's 10 years in the business because it wasn't ALL a solo effort. DC came out in 1998 and it's been all up hill since then (for Beyonce anyway). Just because she was part of a group doesn't make her time in the music industry an less important or credible than Mariah's (just because she's a solo act). IMO Beyonce WAS Destiny's Child. That was proven through all of the other girls that came and went and DC still thrived. The fact that no one is checking for either of the other two girls (sadly) really does prove my point. I think she has proven that she has longevity. How many people make it going solo after leaving a group? Not to many. And how many people try to bring their groups back together and have success after failing to go solo? Once again, not to many. You can bet your ass when DC comes back together, it's gonna be huge. Beyonce works hard at what she does and even if you don't care for her music, you have to give her props for never wanting to fail.

I agree, but I think Next Ex could be polished up and fit the next album, depending what else will be on it. Once again, the future will only tell.
