If you look at it... it's true in some ways. Who is the last "unattractive" singer to sell tons of records? I don't think he meant that it works the other way around in the sense that, "just because you're beautiful, you can sell records" because Christina Milian, Amerie etc... have disproved that notion, as you said. But I think that he was trying to say that we're in an industry where people don't care what your talent is... it's all your looks. If Mary J Blige was a NEW artist in 2008... she would not be half as big than she is now, because times have changed so much. Mary "made it" in an era where the talent was valued over looks. She's pretty in an everyday sista kinda of way... not centerfold model pretty, like artists often have to be these days. Back in the 90's, there were many artists that dropped that weren't very attractive, but people cared about the MUSIC then and bought it for that reason.
I've seen some ignorant shit from those music execs. In fact, a few months ago I was watching a showcase for Atlantic Records, and there was a girl up there who BLEW ME AWAY. Voice was incredible... but she was heavy set and darker skinned. The A&R for Atlantic looked at her with a frown the ENTIRE performance. Then a few turns after her, another girl came up who had the "look" and sounded a got damn mess, and the A&R just had a huge smile on her face the whole time and gave her a round of applause. And the A&R was a WOMAN, not a man!
It's sad... but I think he's right when it comes to women and their success in the industry. I don't think it applies to the same extent when it comes to men, even tho that exists as well. Snoop has a point, but he's too damn hood to know how to articulate that 
SMH at the A&R woman. As a woman, you'd think she'd be a lot more exceptional. A lot of men are sexist pigs (not all of course but the majority), but you are spot on, as times have moved on to this day and age, the record buying public have become a lot more fickle.
I remember the uproar when Alicia won a Grammy for Songs In A Minor in 2002 I believe and she beat out India Arie who everyone said had the better album. It was argued that the Grammy committee only favoured Alicia because of her European features.

Seriously, I don't think looks equal album sales. I don't know one person who will spend their money on an album just cause someone is pretty. Snoop may have had a good point originally but somewhere along the way, he lost it and made hismelf sound stupid and ignorant.
Granted, your looks will help you a great deal in the entertainment industry. You stand a better chance of crossing over into film; International success from diff. magazine covers; You'll get deals representing companies and products, etc.. I won't place it solely on looks becuase personality also has a lot to do with it. You just have to know how to market yourself.

Looks alone CANNOT sell a record. We all know the likes of Beyonce and Alicia Keys look as hot as f**k (break outs, bad wigs and lacefronts aside), but you'd be ignorant to think their looks alone are what have made them sell records. Their looks have contributed to thier success but are not the main cause of it. Christina Milian on the other hand is a hot piece of tottie, but she releases shit and didn't hustle with her music - hence why despite being a pretty girl, she didn't sell big. If looks were the only factor that helped sell a record then Madonna 'gap snaggle toothed' Ciccone, Mary J 'Billo pad' Blige and Amy 'crack head' Winehouse wouldn't be big sellers.
Looks definitely help a female artist. They always will: because you'll have women wanting to aspire to look like you, men aspiring to wanna get with you. Plus magazines will want you on they cover and the endorsement deals will roll in that way.
I'll cap this off by saying that looks can most definitely contribute to selling big (both males and females), but on their own they don't mean jack. You need to have good music, a good team behind you and hustle to sell. It's not enough to put out a CD and just be good looking. If that was the case then Jennifer Lopez's last album would've gone multi platinum and Keri Hilson would've had a CD out already.

I provided some HQ pics. That is definitely lipo. I can even see where the fat was sucked out. Her stomach has no definition and there's a strange, uneven pattern of skin in that area. Her stomach is EXACTLY the same as Beyonce's. I'm not a lipo expert but I can tell and was told how to spot the signs.

I'm gonna agree with Random on the topic at hand. While looks do help, they're not the only reason people in the music industry succeed. I do think that you'll get that leg up over a not so attractive person though. By that I mean, I think an attractive person would have a better shot at getting signed first over a not so attractive person. What happens to you after you've been signed is up to you. Looks can only take you so far. I know we can all think of some ugly artist that has succeeded (to knock Snoop's theory out of the water.)

I went to high school with Christina and she was on the cheerleading team and her stomach was flat she just has a little more definition now. I don't think it's lip. Beyonce looks like she just hits the gym extra hard because her stomach doesn't look like that when she is not touring or promoting an album. Jill Scott is beautiful and darker skin and her albums do pretty well. I don't think it's so much about looks as it is about wheather you have that bubble gum, pop music that sells.

He wasn't calling his daughter ugly. That is not what I said. He alluded to the theory that dark skinned female singers don't ever blow up (as well as the ugly ones). So if his daughter wants to be a successful singer, he believes she stands a lesser chance because she doesn't look like Beyonce or have her skin tone.
Looks may help a person get a deal but it will not guarantee success. Snoop just doesn't know how to speak intelligently enough to give a statement that doesn't come off as ignorant as this one is. I agree with DMV beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I don't see the big deal with all the lypo stuff we all know people who can afford it get work done so it is what it is.
