I think you shout get a hit counter, to show people the hundreds of hits you get each hour.
Or maybe we DON'T want one....

That is a shame. It sounds like he really wanted to join the corps.
That's okay, if I doesn't want to join the Marines, he can always join the Air Force, the finest paramilitary operation in the world

It's the 'Worlds Finest Fighting Force", not the Worlds Finest 'Military Police' Force. If he is worried about having to fight, then perhaps it is best that this kid does not join the Marines.
Don't join the US Postal Service if you don't want to deliver mail, and don't join the US Marine Corps if you don't want to fight.

My question is how is this young man going to pay for those college classes Mr. Murphy talked him into. If he got some kind of scholarship or grant, great! Good for him. If not, it sounds like Mr. Murphy blew some sunshine up his skirt about going to college when he clearly doesn't have the means to do it.

That's a good question, Samurai. I would guess that he's probably going to go to some sort of smaller college; I hope he didn't sacrifice bigger and better dreams just so he wouldn't have to serve in the military.
Brian, I do agree with you, but I think that the military could have been a good thing for this kid. You learn discipline and sacrifice in the military; it appears that perhaps Mr. McCullough could have used an extra lesson in these two areas.
