Who on earth did you talk to?
Both the message and the delivery can hurt. I think it's easier to forgive someone for trying to hurt you because it's easy to understand why they did it. But it's harder to get over a comment that hurts you when it contains an element of truth. It makes you doubt the feelings of the person who told you and it makes you feel foolish for being blind to your own faults.
Luckily, our friends and family care for us despite our faults just as we care for them and all their flaws.
And what's with the party and people being more trouble than they're worth? With the exception if Trevor's habit of breaking your stemware I'm not sure what you could possibly mean. What on earth could possibly "blow up?" Have I missed something?

I think the honesty of the comment depends on the mood of the person at the time. Most things said in anger are said to offend. If the person feels wounded in any way, they're likely to lash out and say something that they know will hurt you, regardless of it's validity.
Or, the person could just be an ass.
