OBVIOUSLY her name isn't Gage! HA!
What is there for her to understand that required an email from the likes of you? That this is a tedious thread?
And if you're not making fun, what's up with the cringing??
Just give it up already. This is becoming truly tiresome.

You've done fine mocking "Anonymous" and I don't think you need any more help. Besides, I wasn't making fun of her name (which isn't Gage by the way). I sent her an email and she understands.

Oh, and if you're going to make fun of other people's names, at least leave one for the rest of us to make fun of.
It's only fair.

Wow! Just for shits and giggles I thought I would check back on this thread. It's amazing how much has been written now on this subject. I don't think anyone here (especially Gage) was trying to insult people with an actual mental disorder. If you were to yell "retard" at a person with say, Down Syndrome, you would be a horses ass. If however your best friend smashes a plate of mashed potatoes in your face and you say "knock it off you fuckin' retard", you would be well within the realm of good taste. Unless your friend is actually mentally challenged, then of course, you're probably fucked.

You missed the point. I wasn’t offended by “Gage” (cringe).
I took exception to your degree of criticism of Anonymous I. If his post was in defense of all things PC, your response would have made sense. But he only said he was offended and you took the opportunity to make a personal attack. I don't think we’re taking the "moral high ground" you're referring to unless sensitivity to others is somehow pious.(?)
If you really volunteer with kids who have learning disabilities, you should know a comment like “retard” can hurt whether it’s intended or not. It’s amazing that someone with your “volunteer experience” doesn’t understand that.
Anyone who knows “Gage” (cringe) didn’t mean to offend anyone with an extra 21st chromosome knows Anonymous I isn’t a PC extremist. Your overreaction reveals you as the sycophant you are. I suspect “Gage” (cringe) needs you take her side in an exaggerated conflict like she need your advice to ignore her “detractors” after the fact.

here, at the expense of anyone with humourous and tuned-in critiques to offer.
Oh, and I don't think I'm smart. Or ignorant either. I am informed on some subjects and utterly baffled by others. But at least I don't line the moral high ground with ridiculous statements about the lives of people I know absolutely nothing about. I should be offended by your comments, but they're just not worth that much to me.
And at least I have the courage to leave a name and a site where you can leave some more ludicrous comments if you desire. It's all about freedom of speech, which the Anonymi seem to have totally forgotten about.
Enjoy the moral high ground by the way. I've heard it's a really painless and comforting way to live. And we all know that a life of self-righteousness is the happiest one of all.
Just look at all those Christians!

Anonymous Part II has clearly missed the point.
My point, OF COURSE, is that Gage is NOT being inconsiderate, insensitive, or discriminatory. Clearly she is not referring to people who are genuinely disabled, which if you had read my comments carefully, you would have figured out.
I do volunteer in my community, in fact I've spent much of my free time volunteering for children with learning disabilities, so accusing me of being out of touch with other members of society is hardly legitimate. Speaking of ignorance...
There is also a difference between being morally offended by something for all the wrong reasons and engaging in social criticism and debate. I was not morally offended by Anonymous I's comments, I just thought they were ignorant and reactionary, and I still do.
I find it pretty hilarious that you would accuse me of flouting my "own politics at the expense of someone who has the courage to speak up," since that's exactly what the Anonymous crew is up to her

Don't forget women drivers. I've been in the car with you when you're stuck behind one and you can be insulting to them more than anyone. Especially if they have red hair.

Hey again,
My favorite person to make fun of is... myself. Sometimes I can be such a fuckin' retard! I type with 4 fingers while staring at the keyboard. Do I suck or what? This morning I put my shirt on inside out...then I took it off and put it on backwards. Seriously. I laughed my ass off at how " developmentally challenged " I really am.

Oh I forgot. I was asked what other groups I discriminate against. Well, other than international criminals, I've always cringed a little at gingers. You know, redhair, freckles, pale eyes.
Can't quite explain why, but their looks give me the shivers.
Sorry to offend.

Come on. You don't actually think those I talked about in this post are really developmentally challenged? They are criminals. International scammers. Retards! I use the term in a completely appropriate way given their pasttime. I of course would not use it to describe someone who is truly disadvantaged (or is it otherly gifted?)
It's kind of like when I call something gay. I don't mean it's homosexual (though I know lots of them, and they don't care if I call them gay). I mean it's lame. Gay, in the 80's meaning of the word.
Have a less uptight day!

It appears that in your “social order” people shouldn’t offend you by asking people to be considerate of others who are less fortunate. You took far more offence at someone else ideas than Anonymous did. Does this mean you’re a more ignorant member of society than he/she is? I think so.
Who are you to take offence and criticize someone who works to help and speaks on behalf of the disadvantaged? Maybe you need to spend less time watching plays and more time enlightening yourself by volunteering in your community.
Blind political correctness has nothing to do with common sense and being considerate for others. How dare you flout your own politics at the expense of someone who has the courage to speak up (no matter how trite the message)?
I’m also staying anonymous. It has nothing to do with courage and everything to do with keeping you off my own blog because think you’re as ignorant as you think you’re smart and I have nothing else to say to you.
P.S. Your punchli

tends to lack common sense. This is totally socially-acceptable, if not something you would call your boss to their face if you intended to keep your job.
"Retard," since it is no longer politcally-correct or an accurate techinical term, ought now to be used in the same way.
And if you need any further justification for this, Anonymous (and how cowardly of you not to leave your name, by the way), you can a) look up your terminology in a dictionary and enlighten yourself before making ill-informed comments, or b)see a play like Oleanna (by David Mamet), which will confirm for you the perils of blind political correctness taken to its logical extreme.
I also think I am both politically-correct and accurate in calling you an idiot.
Good day.

I second the above comment. Get a life. Gage should be congratulated for making some pretty smart social criticism rather than handing out tired, watered-down, politcally-correct nonsense. We should all follow her example and not spend our time worrying about offending ignorant people by sharing our thoughts about the world around us. After all, no one can criticize the social order without offending the more ignorant members of society.
Besides, consider this: 50-60 years ago, "idiot" was an acceptable, scientific term for a mentally-handicapped person with the mental capacity of child under the age of three, just as "retard" was acceptable 10 years ago, before we got insanely politically-correct and started using words like "developmentally-delayed," which would seem to indicate that they will someday catch up. A misleading term at best.
Anyway, now we use the word "idiot" to refer to a generally not-too-bright person, but usually one who is of average intelligence but

Hooray! I offended someone today, and it was before lunch. I don't dicriminate against anyone. I will gladly make fun of anyone and everyone, including you. You sniveling little twit. Piss off! not all people can go through their life with the same amount of ease and lack of consideration for others that you do.

Hey, thanks for using various forms of the word "retard" in your latest post. It's one of my favorite words. 10 points! Now, if you could work in the word "gastroenterologist" II'll give you 20.
