i went to france and the UK in '98, when Jan was stilll living and working in Brighton. we did 5 days in Paris. true story!

and yeah, the colours are much more vivid then what is captured on a computer screen. i actually saw the real painting at the d'Orsay when we were in Paris and it is breathtaking!

yeah, this is one of his most famous paintings too ...!! come on, ya gotta love the expressionist notion of light and shadow ... it's totally NOT an attempt to be literal!

ok to be fair I am basing my assessment on what was probably a bargain basement cheap art warehouse beat up version... it couldn't get much worse than the copy I saw in person so I suspect you are telling the truth!!

We have a massive poster of this in our bedroom because my husband is obsessed with Van Gogh (and Matisse, and Picasso...). The colors are much brighter and it's quite attractive, really. Really I swear.
