I will say this very clearly in the hopes that "Al Gore" gets this. You want $5 gas and I am sure you might get it. What will you do when the rest of us farmer's stop delivering!?!? You had better start learning how to grow YOUR own crops because we will no longer do it!! I know how to live without the food store. Do YOU!!!!!!????? Wake up you self righteous piece of crap! THAT IS REALITY!!!!!!

I cannot help it... I want this POS to read it!

We cannot even predict accurately the forecast in the week! Yet some how we are supposed to be stupid enough to rely on computer models 50 years into the future!!!!!!!!!???????????? WHAT ARE YOU SMOKING AND LET ME HAVE A PUFF!!!!

Live life to the fullest. All else is a waste of time.

I will say that an armed citizen is the way to be. I was mugged riding my bike home and thank god I didn't have my gun on me because three souls would have been lost. Those bastards beat the shit out of me for nothing! I am still to this day confused by that. If I would of had my gun on me that day it would have been a mess. I still have faith to this day that people are decent towards each other. Next time... it will not end the same!

Take care everyone... Enjoy your life!!

Holster, I aint seen you in these parts too often, but demmit! that's a nice peice of writin' you got there! and damn straight too!

Nice!
It is truly amazing the many supposedly educated, "higher educated" folks who refuse to learn from the past and insist on doing the same thing over thinking this time it will be different. Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows! That's what life should be, and could be if we'd only follow them off the cliff.

I had to start somewhere, breaking this down bit by bit is and keeping the components brief is the challenge. What kills me are my peers that buy into the lie - and they say that 'trickle-down' doesn't work...trickle-down failure I say.

At the risk of sounding like Kermit, may I suggest some formatting? It would be more easily read if broken into paragraphs and spaced.

Star Tribune headline in today's Strib:

"Tragic past won't save conviced rapist from hard time" (liberal bias maybe?)

This should read:

"Somali immigrant gets only 12 years for brutally raping woman"

Rage Ibrahim is the guy who violently raped a Somali woman in an apartment hallway for hours while other Somali immigrants looked on and did nothing. The Somali community seems to be supporting this parasite and claiming the 12 year jail sentence is far too harsh, while it has shunned the female victim, typical of Muslim culture.

The taxpayer funded trial was complicated by language difficulties, cultural barriers, and religious taboos.

Why are Minnesota taxpayers being forced to pay to import people like this from Africa to get on our welfare system? Isn't it clear that we have a broken and suicidal immigration system?

"The American Dream"(you know, that idyllic place in our mass memories that looks stunningly similar to television in the 50's and 60's)"

So, you're mourning the loss of the memory of a media fiction that never existed and blaming everyone born between 1945 and 1960 for losing it.

Welcome to the Anti-Strib.

Noted and noted on the formatting, thanks. And hello Ed, I'm not 'blaming'anyone born between 1945 and 1960; just noting behaviors. The sources of my accusations will be parsed out over time.

Holster wrote: "...can be tied directly to the rise of the self-centered behemoth that is 'The Boomer Generation', its coming of age and the rise of it's influence on the Nation. This is not to say that I'm assigning all the ills and angsts of past, present and future to a single Generation; but..."

Holster also wrote: "I'm not 'blaming'anyone..."

If you say so, Holster, but it looks different to me.

And the memory ain't dead, Ed. I hear alot of 'boomers' mourning the loss of that ideal, and I for one am tired of hearing about it from that demographic clot. Nothing personal, Ed. You're a thoughtful guy and my intention is not to attack individuals, but the ideals that I see as contributing to cheapening of my culture.

I don't know how you title a piece A Generation Of Indignant Butter-Butts and then say don't take it personnal.

What year were you born, if you don't mind my asking?

Of course, in the 50's and 60's, TV itself was looked on by many as a cheapening of the culture.

Still is.

...and the father knows best Donna Reed leave it to Beaver Ozzie Nelson perfect family in perfect town America image was, in my opinion, one of the cheapest.

Heh, butter butts.
You seem to have struck a chord.
This might be a fun pot to watch get stirred.
I'm part of the generation in question and I have to agree with much of what you say. The 60's set in motion a wave of self indulgence that is reflected today in the shows and movies we see coming out of Hollywood, the legislation coming out of capitols across this country and our courts. The schools teach nothing about self reliance and accountability nor the notion of right and wrong, good and evil etc. They subvert the will and responsibilty of parents and many parents allow it, even encourage it.
Moral equivalency reigns supreme.
We can kill our children before they are born but must be kind and gentle with an enemy who would kill us and destroy our way of life.
On the other hand, this generation has contributed mightily to this nation but I'm not sure it balances the rest.

Wake up from the American dream!

I agree, Maxx. It would be moronic of me to assert that nothing good came out of that generation - a statistical and logical impossibility and nothing is ever that simple. I was raised by the same generation that raised the boomers, some sort of cultural/generational half-breed...I see the boomers as older siblings. Aw crap, now I might have to start quoting Robert Bly...

All that Donna Reed, Leave It To Beaver hoo-haw was worse than cheap - outright misrepresentations and lies. You know it and I know it, Ed.

And as far as looking different to you, Ed (the quoted excerpts), it then becomes my responsibility to try to explain or convince you otherwise.

Holster, I hope you and I can have many reasoned and challenging discussions in the future.

I appreciate your respectful tone toward me, and I will try to give it back.

yah, I'm kinda tired of polemics, though I may have to flirt with them every once in a while. Cheers, Ed. Unlike Doug, I enjoy debate over pissing matches.

Wow -- the Anti Strib indoctrination camp session went well. Where did they implant the chip?

And before you denigrate Boomers, remember that without us, a few in particular, you'd probably be writing this in a letter to the editor instead of posting it on a PC.

And AC2 -- seriously -- please return to the bunker. The sun has come up and literally and figuratively, a new day is dawning.

Your negative vibes are ruining my karma.

3 generations before the boomers, a few books in the average household was the only source of fantasy escape from everyday life. A good deal of imagination was necessary to make these other worlds real and they were still other worlds.

2 generations books were more readily available through libraries. More of the same.

1 generation before the boomers, the radio was another primary form of escapism. It required less imagination to construct the worlds laid out in radio fantasies.

The boomer/tv1 generation has had the fantasy, ideal worlds made real through audio and visual means--believe what you see. The tv shows of the 50s & 60s was the "Hollywood" ideal family life and everyone was expected to toe-the-line.

We all demanded the same toys, presented repeatedly at 15 minute intervals during our primary viewing times. Our post-depression, post WWII parents had knowledge of bad times and resisted.

Our relatively frugal parents, who didn't have or want credit, were able to provide us and themselves a better life than their parents.

We, the boomers, never having seen bad times, have been undaunted in our desires. Once adults, we were not detered by the law--especially in the 6s--and we were unrestricted by liquidity, with credit readily available.

We inherited a federal government that had been nurtured to a much bigger size by WWII and the Korean conflicts and unshackled from growth and grown in a whole new direction by the "New Deal." "Great Society" exacerbated the problem and retasked the federal government to do and provide all.

We inherited and received a functional, pre-teachers'-unions, government education which we were able to use to do amazing things technologically and economically. But we continue(d) to exploit and feed the beast our parents and we created--and saw no reason to.

We are and continue to be the free loving, free living generation based on free credit and minimal ramifications.

Sorry. Don't worry, be happy. We'll all be dead in 40 years.

And saw no reason to stop.

The chip Al, is on your shoulder.

Wow -- the Anti Strib indoctrination camp session went well.
Funny how Albert always frames things from his personal perspective. By this we can infer that he actually did attend an indoctrination camp. (Must be where the five of him met.)
It certainly shows in all five of his deficiencies as regards both imagination and critical thinking.

As for polemics there is little gained by snipe and snark but the frustration of dealing with the liberal mindset for the last 5 yrs has left me convinced that no matter what you say it will be turned around or ignored so why bother? How do you argue with people who insist on following the failed notions of socialism and refuse to see the reality of today? I would love for the world to be all bright and sunshiny with unicorns and rainbows greeting me everyday but alas, the unicorns wouldn't get on the Ark and rainbows only occur after you have weathered a storm. It's the storms of life that make you stronger and insisiting to be protected from them by others is repulsive to me but that is the liberal desire. I want no part of it and have only ridicule and derision left for those who do.

Rather than blaming a generation, I think it better to blame the wrong, inter-generation ideals that are being perpetrated. Maxx mentioned socialism.

I would like to start an AntiStib list of wrong ideals perpetrated by our and our parent's generations that we have continued or grown.
- Socialism
- Limitations of capitalism
- Government provided education
- Government provided health insurance
- Government provided social security
- Democractic vs republican (not the parties) principles--majority doesn't and shouldn't always rule.

That is a start to a list. I would like to see others add to it.

So which hand did you remove from the circle-jerk to come up with that 'two legs good, four legs better' brand of smarm? AlBorg is a fine example of the problem - trots out every form of rhetorical flim-flam to take the attention off of any given issue and bring it back to 'him'self. Thanks for being a fine example of a self-centered attention monkey. Your contribution is always welcome, caricature.

great points, tomc. I'll come around to those points in future posts. Think about it - if I were really trying to blame an entire generation, I'd have to 'blame' human nature. In the absolutist sense. What good does that do? It does get the conversation rolling though. Eh?

Unlike Doug, I enjoy debate over pissing matches.

pffff... If I wasn't on the way to the cabin I would enjoy deconstructing this.

I will however take time to note this;

The generation that couldn't or wouldn't be bothered with the by-products of free love

In the early to mid 50's, orphanages were well populated and the move to close them began in the mid 50's. That happened because of the outright neglect of those children and because of the criminal sexual crimes perpetrated against them.

It wasn't my generation that produced the - as you say - by-products of free love. The previous generation just did a really effective job of hiding them away to society didn't have to see them. I also remember quite clearly images of hippies with joyous, happy little kids running around.

If anything, my generation is guilty of overindulgence and giving children the idea than pseudo-affluence will make you a complete person.

Based on the bitterness and borderline contempt that holster apparently feels for Boomers, i'm guessing he is between 35 and 40; old enough to distance himself from the generation he derides but to young to grasp the conditions and societal fluctuations that created it.

To quote a song from my era,

"Every generation blames the one before, And all of our frustrations come beating on your door,"

Max- Re: "I would love for the world to be all bright and sunshiny with unicorns and rainbows.."

That would be flowers, puppies and SAUSAGES..

I was just hoping the stribbers would add an enlightened conservative to the mix. But its just going to be more whining about socialism, liberals, the end of the status quo and blaming absolutely everyone else including Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton for the world's problems without taking any responsibility.

Oh well, one can dream. Is there a chance that you can replace Kermit? You actually have something to say.

Wouldn't dream of it, Kermit has plenty to say that is valid (no one can be spot on at all times, and sure I disagree with some of his assertions as well, as I do with everyone. That's the glory of diverse opinions and reasoned debate.) Whichever v.Al posted that last comment seems to have at least a shred of reason, wish he/she would comment separate from the collective. I'm not whining about anything - this post was a shot across the bow, give it time - I'm against instant gratification and knee-jerk reactionism as well, but I'm human and have a way of being as susceptible to it as anyone...but I'm working on it.

That's right, Albert. We have lots of disagreements on this side, because we all do this complex thing called "thinking". I know it's generally discouraged over there in Lefty LaLa Land, but we all have come to be pretty fond of it.
You should give it a shot some time.

Doug, you must be one of those endangered "Silver Bearded Hippies", a dying breed to be sure. You can "deconstruct" all day long, it's what your generation excels at. Do you not understand that your generation feels guilty as a result of your parent’s success in WW2, and that your actions in the late 60's were brought on by your guilt in the eyes of the rest of the World?...and yes YOUR "blame" is what created the mess we're in today. Tell me again what a 35-40 year old has to do with the political state of the nation today? - very little. What we're all witnessing in the US Congress is the fruition of your generation which seems to be more and more of what you Hippies were so in love with - blatant Marxism.

“I also remember quite clearly images of hippies with joyous, happy little kids running around. “ Were these the same kids that contracted typhus because their parents were defecating too close their food source? –just curious about that back-to-nature thing.

A more important by-product in my opinion is the proliferation of sexually transmitted diseases by your beloved Boomer generation. To say that your generation understood the times is a cop-out, maaaaaan. I know all about your generation and the political atmosphere, and being harassed by 'the man'. For you to say “but to young to grasp the conditions and societal fluctuations that created it.” of Holster, let me add that the Hippie generation had a choice when it acted, and it acted irresponsibly and belligerently. You sir, may be the one unable to grasp YOUR parent’s generation and the societal fluctuations that created it., and besides your generation created an entire movement based on blame...you would have thought the Boomers invented the word. Please don't shrug-off your responsibility for accepting the blame of your generation's actions...though it seems to be so intuitive of you Boomers. Maybe you can spend some time "deconstructing" that at your cabin, Doug.

This guy seems to know the reason for all our ills.

It is they. They they they. They they they they they. They they they they They they they. They they they they they. They they they they They they they. They they they they they. They they they they They they they. They they they they they. They they they they.

Someone else is always the problem at anti-strib.com. Look in the mirror you dimwitted fucks and take some goddamn responsibility for a change.

Wow jake, such insight. Are you a professor at a government funded University?

No, superpower, Jake is a 9-11 troofer that holds a permanent reservation on the BEST table in the fever swamp. It may not be the greatest view, but Jake gets to spit in people's food on the way out of the kitchen, and giggles like a high school cheerleader after doing so.

I don't think it's "they". I think it's Jake. Really, if you post Boomers were capable of summoning a clue, we wouldn't have these problems.

"Wake up you self righteous piece of crap! THAT IS REALITY!!!!!!"

Here's reality big boy -- you want roads and infrastructure? -- here's another gas tax coming at ya. And it has some bipartisan support. Its a whole dime too -- .10 cents -- u big spenders up for it?

Bwhahahahahahah

http://www.foxnews.com/story/ 0,2...,386643,00.html

And AC2? I dont give a shit what gas costs -- I drive less than 5000 miles a year and can afford any food hike thrown at me. And I own enough land to raise whatever crops I need for my family.

The fewer cars on the road the better the bikin is.

Al
do you have any idea how much gas you would have to buy to feed your family for a year?

Don't forget the cloths you would have to make for your self and family.

and the animals you would have to feed house and proses.

do you really even know what you would have to do to really live off the land Al?

5Al sez:
The entire American population is hurting from high fuel prices.
But I (5Al) have won life's lottery and have a short commute, therefore I laugh at American hardship! Ha! I (5Al) hope it hurts because I hate you all. Bwahahah.

True jackassery if I've ever seen it.
Are you ready for an old fashioned Anti-Srtib classic?
Go gitcher fuckin shinebox.
Asshole.

Used 'I' 4 times
Used 'Me' once
and a 'My' for good measure - in two short sentences. Thanks again for your contribution to the points.

Al is a classic liberal. Misanthropic to the core.

I just finished up a phone interview with a 'classical' liberal (and retired lobbyist) and my impression is that AlBorg would like to see this guys head on a plate with a side of his man-jewels. With the way Alborg comes across here, anyway.

Perhaps revise "classic" to "contemporary".

Tru Dat, Daddy-O.

"And AC2? I dont give a shit what gas costs -- I drive less than 5000 miles a year and can afford any food hike thrown at me. And I own enough land to raise whatever crops I need for my family.

Good for you Al but what about the people who do give a shit and are hurting because of it!??

"what about the people who do give a shit and are hurting because of it!?" What exactly are they going to do about it? Consume less and spend less money on gas is about the only logical answer.

Wake up. people have been warning about this for years. You guys are always asking "where in the constitution does it guarantee healthcare etc?" Read it -- no where is there a guarantee that our way of life wont change, that we will not have to pay for higher prices.

Phil Gramm is right. We are a country of whiners. I'm not complaining, I'm adapting. I didnt base my financial life around a resource that is being depleted. You want to live in a big house, drive a inefficient car -- great. But for Christs sake, quit complaining about the cost. Suck it up and either pay the man or do something about it.

Al, (whichever one you are), you are a self-centered bastard.

If you guys are serious about the impact of higher gas prices on the little guy, how about this? Any one making less than $50,000 pays nothing for gas. Starting at $50,000 on up to $100,000 of taxable income, your tax rate goes up by say 1%. $100,000 to $250, 2% etc. The wealthiest Americans would subsidize the poorest and you guys would put your money where your mouths are,

And note I have proposed a way to pay for it. I am not saddling my kids with the bill later as you would.

Problem with that al is as you have said before you are set for life with no income from a regular job. thus letting yourself off the hook again same attitude I got mine screw the rest of you.

Everything is caused by global warming!

http://www.americanthinker.com/ b..._by_global.html

"you are a self-centered bastard" Coming from this crowd, that is a compliment. Do I get the secret decoder ring now?

The wealthiest Americans would subsidize the poorest

You must get such a chubby, stealing from the rich with such glee.

Peter-Fucking-Pan.

"And note I have proposed a way to pay for it."

Communism is not the answer, 5Al.

"Wake up. people have been warning about this for years. You guys are always asking "where in the constitution does it guarantee healthcare etc?" Read it -- no where is there a guarantee that our way of life wont change, that we will not have to pay for higher prices."

I seem to remember reading somewhere about this concept of no taxation without representation. Now I'll put it to you, AlBorg, that the usage of the word 'representation' was more likely meant as to be of tangible value, to be represented with an in-kind physical object that the representation of the tax incurred to the citizen (ex. "Ship Money" a tax charged to the citizenry not in possesion of an oceangoing vessel to support the British Navy) not the connotation of a representative member of a legislative body to represent that citizenry. The legislator was simply there to maintain that standard, not interpret it or re-interpret it.

Hey Al's... I don't want your money to pay for my driving!! There is absolutely no need for it when supplies are available if we could just get to it!

All the while we need to increase our energy production for the new cars sucking electricity!
