I will say this very clearly in the hopes that "Al Gore" gets this. You want $5 gas and I am sure you might get it. What will you do when the rest of us farmer's stop delivering!?!? You had better start learning how to grow YOUR own crops because we will no longer do it!! I know how to live without the food store. Do YOU!!!!!!????? Wake up you self righteous piece of crap! THAT IS REALITY!!!!!! |
We cannot even predict accurately the forecast in the week! Yet some how we are supposed to be stupid enough to rely on computer models 50 years into the future!!!!!!!!!???????????? WHAT ARE YOU SMOKING AND LET ME HAVE A PUFF!!!! |
Live life to the fullest. All else is a waste of time. |
I will say that an armed citizen is the way to be. I was mugged riding my bike home and thank god I didn't have my gun on me because three souls would have been lost. Those bastards beat the shit out of me for nothing! I am still to this day confused by that. If I would of had my gun on me that day it would have been a mess. I still have faith to this day that people are decent towards each other. Next time... it will not end the same! |
Holster, I aint seen you in these parts too often, but demmit! that's a nice peice of writin' you got there! and damn straight too! |
Nice! |
I had to start somewhere, breaking this down bit by bit is and keeping the components brief is the challenge. What kills me are my peers that buy into the lie - and they say that 'trickle-down' doesn't work...trickle-down failure I say. |
At the risk of sounding like Kermit, may I suggest some formatting? It would be more easily read if broken into paragraphs and spaced. |
Star Tribune headline in today's Strib: |
"The American Dream"(you know, that idyllic place in our mass memories that looks stunningly similar to television in the 50's and 60's)" |
Noted and noted on the formatting, thanks. And hello Ed, I'm not 'blaming'anyone born between 1945 and 1960; just noting behaviors. The sources of my accusations will be parsed out over time. |
Holster wrote: "...can be tied directly to the rise of the self-centered behemoth that is 'The Boomer Generation', its coming of age and the rise of it's influence on the Nation. This is not to say that I'm assigning all the ills and angsts of past, present and future to a single Generation; but..." |
And the memory ain't dead, Ed. I hear alot of 'boomers' mourning the loss of that ideal, and I for one am tired of hearing about it from that demographic clot. Nothing personal, Ed. You're a thoughtful guy and my intention is not to attack individuals, but the ideals that I see as contributing to cheapening of my culture. |
I don't know how you title a piece A Generation Of Indignant Butter-Butts and then say don't take it personnal. |
Of course, in the 50's and 60's, TV itself was looked on by many as a cheapening of the culture. |
...and the father knows best Donna Reed leave it to Beaver Ozzie Nelson perfect family in perfect town America image was, in my opinion, one of the cheapest. |
Heh, butter butts. |
Wake up from the American dream! |
I agree, Maxx. It would be moronic of me to assert that nothing good came out of that generation - a statistical and logical impossibility and nothing is ever that simple. I was raised by the same generation that raised the boomers, some sort of cultural/generational half-breed...I see the boomers as older siblings. Aw crap, now I might have to start quoting Robert Bly... |
All that Donna Reed, Leave It To Beaver hoo-haw was worse than cheap - outright misrepresentations and lies. You know it and I know it, Ed. |
And as far as looking different to you, Ed (the quoted excerpts), it then becomes my responsibility to try to explain or convince you otherwise. |
Holster, I hope you and I can have many reasoned and challenging discussions in the future. |
yah, I'm kinda tired of polemics, though I may have to flirt with them every once in a while. Cheers, Ed. Unlike Doug, I enjoy debate over pissing matches. |
Wow -- the Anti Strib indoctrination camp session went well. Where did they implant the chip? |
And AC2 -- seriously -- please return to the bunker. The sun has come up and literally and figuratively, a new day is dawning. |
3 generations before the boomers, a few books in the average household was the only source of fantasy escape from everyday life. A good deal of imagination was necessary to make these other worlds real and they were still other worlds. |
And saw no reason to stop. |
The chip Al, is on your shoulder. |
Wow -- the Anti Strib indoctrination camp session went well. |
As for polemics there is little gained by snipe and snark but the frustration of dealing with the liberal mindset for the last 5 yrs has left me convinced that no matter what you say it will be turned around or ignored so why bother? How do you argue with people who insist on following the failed notions of socialism and refuse to see the reality of today? I would love for the world to be all bright and sunshiny with unicorns and rainbows greeting me everyday but alas, the unicorns wouldn't get on the Ark and rainbows only occur after you have weathered a storm. It's the storms of life that make you stronger and insisiting to be protected from them by others is repulsive to me but that is the liberal desire. I want no part of it and have only ridicule and derision left for those who do. |
Rather than blaming a generation, I think it better to blame the wrong, inter-generation ideals that are being perpetrated. Maxx mentioned socialism. |
So which hand did you remove from the circle-jerk to come up with that 'two legs good, four legs better' brand of smarm? AlBorg is a fine example of the problem - trots out every form of rhetorical flim-flam to take the attention off of any given issue and bring it back to 'him'self. Thanks for being a fine example of a self-centered attention monkey. Your contribution is always welcome, caricature. |
great points, tomc. I'll come around to those points in future posts. Think about it - if I were really trying to blame an entire generation, I'd have to 'blame' human nature. In the absolutist sense. What good does that do? It does get the conversation rolling though. Eh? |
Unlike Doug, I enjoy debate over pissing matches. |
Max- Re: "I would love for the world to be all bright and sunshiny with unicorns and rainbows.." |
I was just hoping the stribbers would add an enlightened conservative to the mix. But its just going to be more whining about socialism, liberals, the end of the status quo and blaming absolutely everyone else including Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton for the world's problems without taking any responsibility. |
Wouldn't dream of it, Kermit has plenty to say that is valid (no one can be spot on at all times, and sure I disagree with some of his assertions as well, as I do with everyone. That's the glory of diverse opinions and reasoned debate.) Whichever v.Al posted that last comment seems to have at least a shred of reason, wish he/she would comment separate from the collective. I'm not whining about anything - this post was a shot across the bow, give it time - I'm against instant gratification and knee-jerk reactionism as well, but I'm human and have a way of being as susceptible to it as anyone...but I'm working on it. |
That's right, Albert. We have lots of disagreements on this side, because we all do this complex thing called "thinking". I know it's generally discouraged over there in Lefty LaLa Land, but we all have come to be pretty fond of it. |
Doug, you must be one of those endangered "Silver Bearded Hippies", a dying breed to be sure. You can "deconstruct" all day long, it's what your generation excels at. Do you not understand that your generation feels guilty as a result of your parent’s success in WW2, and that your actions in the late 60's were brought on by your guilt in the eyes of the rest of the World?...and yes YOUR "blame" is what created the mess we're in today. Tell me again what a 35-40 year old has to do with the political state of the nation today? - very little. What we're all witnessing in the US Congress is the fruition of your generation which seems to be more and more of what you Hippies were so in love with - blatant Marxism. |
This guy seems to know the reason for all our ills. |
Wow jake, such insight. Are you a professor at a government funded University? |
No, superpower, Jake is a 9-11 troofer that holds a permanent reservation on the BEST table in the fever swamp. It may not be the greatest view, but Jake gets to spit in people's food on the way out of the kitchen, and giggles like a high school cheerleader after doing so. |
I don't think it's "they". I think it's Jake. Really, if you post Boomers were capable of summoning a clue, we wouldn't have these problems. |
"Wake up you self righteous piece of crap! THAT IS REALITY!!!!!!" |
And AC2? I dont give a shit what gas costs -- I drive less than 5000 miles a year and can afford any food hike thrown at me. And I own enough land to raise whatever crops I need for my family. |
Al |
5Al sez: |
Used 'I' 4 times |
Al is a classic liberal. Misanthropic to the core. |
I just finished up a phone interview with a 'classical' liberal (and retired lobbyist) and my impression is that AlBorg would like to see this guys head on a plate with a side of his man-jewels. With the way Alborg comes across here, anyway. |
Perhaps revise "classic" to "contemporary". |
Tru Dat, Daddy-O. |
"And AC2? I dont give a shit what gas costs -- I drive less than 5000 miles a year and can afford any food hike thrown at me. And I own enough land to raise whatever crops I need for my family. |
"what about the people who do give a shit and are hurting because of it!?" What exactly are they going to do about it? Consume less and spend less money on gas is about the only logical answer. |
Al, (whichever one you are), you are a self-centered bastard. |
If you guys are serious about the impact of higher gas prices on the little guy, how about this? Any one making less than $50,000 pays nothing for gas. Starting at $50,000 on up to $100,000 of taxable income, your tax rate goes up by say 1%. $100,000 to $250, 2% etc. The wealthiest Americans would subsidize the poorest and you guys would put your money where your mouths are, |
Problem with that al is as you have said before you are set for life with no income from a regular job. thus letting yourself off the hook again same attitude I got mine screw the rest of you. |
Everything is caused by global warming! |
"you are a self-centered bastard" Coming from this crowd, that is a compliment. Do I get the secret decoder ring now? |
The wealthiest Americans would subsidize the poorest |
"And note I have proposed a way to pay for it." |
"Wake up. people have been warning about this for years. You guys are always asking "where in the constitution does it guarantee healthcare etc?" Read it -- no where is there a guarantee that our way of life wont change, that we will not have to pay for higher prices." |
Hey Al's... I don't want your money to pay for my driving!! There is absolutely no need for it when supplies are available if we could just get to it! |
