I know that people want to make a big deal out of this but to me the guy is just a scam artist, like people who lie about having cancer to collect money. They are bad people and should get the maximum penalty for trying to bamboozle the community. I do feel a little bad for the family, especially the kids. I hope they get some help so that the lesson they learn isn't "when I try this, I won't be dumb like him and tell people in jail about it." |

When I first hear this story, my initial thoughts were that liberals were behind this somehow, trying to create a situation which really didn't exist. I didn't suspect the home owner though. |

It works for Jackson. He's made a ton of money playing the race card. I'm not excusing this guy, I think he should be tarred and feathered but he was trying to work an angle. Look at Mr Hicks in Golden Valley. There's gold in victimhood. |

I haven't gotten around to posting on the guy that got $770,000 for a face full of mace. |

Maxxdog, you are wrong to compare the Hix case with this one. From everything that I've read, Hix was wronged by the GV police. Does he deserve all the settlement money? Maybe, maybe not. Not my call. But he was caught up in a mistaken identity thing and pepper sprayed in the face and manhandled basically for protesting his innocence. Probably not the wisest choice of action with some adrenaline infused cops out to catch a bank robber, but not a crime. And anything like this cross burning scam dude. |

These rediculous awards need to stop in any case. Taxpayers ultimatley have to pay out. |

You're right, Margaret. I shouldn't have compared the two. |

You missed the money shot Tracy - the man was quoted in a news report as saying" |
|
"He pissed and moaned about what this did to his little girl and how she felt terrorized. In the end, it was HE that terrorized her. There is no excuse for that. What a piece of shit." |

The comments were made as a part of a news report on one of the local TV stations. In the same report, they made a point to mention that June lives in a "mostly white neighborhood". The message was clear - white bad, June good. the news station also had the daughter's comments, which basically said that she felt scared and that she never dealt with the cross burning back in California. |

Hmmm... I wonder why the Strib didn't quote the TV story? They might have avoided it if the broadcast was on an unrelated media outlet, but... I don't know. That sounds like a useful reference or quote to include in the follow-up story. |
