According to the US Census Bureau, Ohio also took in the 8th highest amount of taxes in 2007 ($24,810,567,000). As of July 2007 they had an estimated population of 11.5 million, which works out to be 2157.441 per capita.
Texas, on the other hand, had 3rd highest total taken in from State taxes at 40,314,714,000, and a population of almost 24 million people. This makes their per capita taxes 1679.78.
Let's throw MN in there to see what we are more like...shall we?
MN State taxes taken in ranks 14th at 17,780,164...population is almost 5.2 million...per capita taxes is $3419.26.
Some will try to argue that it is so we can pay for our "high standard of living". This is total BS...it is so we can pay among the MOST in the union to welfare kings and queens.
2004-2005 (sorry, most recent data I could find: http://www.ppinys.org/reports/
jt...arespending.htm ) shows us spending 3rd most State and Local Public Welfare Spending Per Capita at $1,900 compared to 13th ranked Ohio at $1,335 and Texas ranked 48th at $849.

There was NO welfare reform in MN. You can still stay on the dole forever here.
Has anyone ever address the state to state mobility of the welfare class? If you benefits run out in one state do they just move to another state?
With MN outlawing checking illegal status, I would assume that many people just decline to provide any credentials to get benefits.

Here are some facts about MN Welfare programs...
Food Stamps:
You don't have to a U.S. citizen to get food stamps, you just have to be a resident of MN.
Your home is not considered an asset in determining eligibility for food stamps.
To get General Assistance:
General Assistance (GA) provides a monthly cash grant to adults ages 18 to 64 who are unable to support themselves due to documented circumstances, such as:
* Temporary or permanent illness
* Needed in the home to care for another person
* Residents of Group Residential Housing
* Women in Battered Women’s Shelters
* Unemployable
* Medically certified as having mental retardation or mental illness
* Advanced age (55)
* Full-time student eligible for displaced homemaker services
* Performing court-ordered services
* Learning disabled
* High school students over age 18 whose primary language is not English
* Under age 18, not pregnant and not living with parent stepparent, or legal guardian
* Drug/alcohol addiction
Additionally, to be eligible for General Assistance an applicant must:
* be a Minnesota resident for at least 30 days;
* be unable to work for a minimum of 30 days;
* not have a minor, dependent child living in the household;
* have little or no income or resources; and
* not be a current SSI recipient.
Clients may have some assets and still qualify for General Assistance. They may have up to:
* $1,000 worth of personal property,
* $1,500 value in a motor vehicle, and
* A homestead (residence in which they live).
General Assistance participants are also eligible for help with medical costs through the General Assistance Medical Care or the Medical Assistance programs and Food Support.

GA is a scam. I ahd a friend who lost her job and had back surgery and was off for a year.
She applied and was declined becuase she had too much money. (She isn't loaded)
The system doesn't help those who deserve help, only those that know how to work the system.

No wonder the population is changing here so much with that welfare system.
And no it is not to pay for our 'high standard of living'. Total B.S. I have friends in and have traveled to different states that have much lower taxes and people there have it just as good. With a few exceptions: they don't have as much crime to worry about, there is a better sense of community, and it is warmer!
