Civiwized? WTF? Are you planning to block commenters or otherwise screen them? Or dilute content to the point where hotheads will not care enough to respond? Or drive out creativity by psychological pressure, sort of what the left has done to the Democrat party?
Somebody ought to write about Sotamayor and judicial empathy. Somebody ought to write about Obammy playing Elmer Fudd to Kim Jong Il's Bugs Bunny (hey, wait a minute...), and the mess we're getting into. Or maybe write about Harry Reid being willing to take Guantanamo prisoners in Nevada, but not nuclear waste at Yucca Mt. Which is more likely to be a problem? Go cwazy but be civiwized!

Maybe a few posts taking apart Obama's judicial activists?

You gotta admit. That was one of the funniest episodes evva.
Gordon and the whole Hendrick crew (cept for JJ and MM) bites. They deserved that brain sturgeon Jr. Though they aren't having a good year, I'm loyal to RCR and the old Earnhardt racing...just like Dale Sr(one of the last real men stock car racers) was. Little Dale showed his true colors by turning his back on what his Daddy built.
Gordon, by the way, was lucky there was people protecting his ass after he sucker punched Matt last year. That's the kind of little punk he is.

I was into Nascar before it was Nascar, back when it was just called "stock car racing". Only one or two steps out of ridgerunning and less than that from being a demo derby. Dirt tracks, not much money involved, little or no media coverage. Then it was about who had the best car (not about everyone having what amounts to the same car) and who was luckiest and drove the best on a given day. Not much in the way of "safety precautions" either. Back then everyone understood that if they drove 150+ mph and crashed you were gonna get hurt and maybe killed.
AJ Foyt, Dale Sr, Darrel Waltrip, Benny Parsons, et. al. Ahhh, those were the day, those were MEN.
Jeff "Rainbow Warrior" Gordon is a puss.

Never was much for openwheelers but AJ was one tough hombre. Saw him get out of, what was left of, his car with his foot completely broken from his ankle. He had to get away by walk/running on his leg/ankle bone with the foot flopping off to the side. That made the Theisman break look like a purple nurple.
You're right about days gone by being a lot better. Bobby, Donny, Benny, Richard P and Cale....those were the days when half the action was in the pits AFTER the race.

Oh, I think it's still a sport. Just not as good as it could be. It's gotten all pc in the last 20 years. No more smoking or chewing ads. Can't even advertise what really built the sport into big bucks, ala Winston Cup. Harry Gant wouldn't be pc at all today. Soon the Blue Duce(Miller Lite) and Bud car will be forced to comply. And likes of the 07 (Jack Daniels) will never be seen in public again. This past week there was a stink raised about the stars and bars again. Can't have little Abbuakbar and Astersky Ralfelle asking what that flag is all about.
Once the smell of money got out to the nannys, they took over and controlled everything about NASCAR. Government has it's claws into everything.

Tell that to the guy gripping a small steering wheel while clutching and accelerating to 200 MPH in a crown of 30.
Horse racing is the "Sport of Kings". It's only a little different from NASCAR.

A drivers heart rate is usually between 170 and 190 throughout the race. Yes, it is a sport.
Sure, PC has taken over most everything, even NASCAR. Those "men" you speak of might have a big fine or even a several game suspension if they pulled those stunts today. The power of the purse-strings & pocketbook is mighty.
kow, most things in America today are not as good as they were or as good as the should be. "Nostalgia" will double that perception. Y'all might think the good old days were great!!! but a closer look might show some tarnished and tatteredness.

" A drivers heart rate is usually between 170 and 190 throughout the race. Yes, it is a sport. "
Sorry K-Rod, but aside from their heart rate they aren't exercising any muscle group, which can open them up to a host of health issues over time, heart attack and stroke come to mind. The constant over-stimulation of their endocrine systems can also lead to a variety of health issues as well. The same sort of over-stimulation is the reason I have to take medication after burning out my thyroid. Although mine is due to a combination of years of competitive speed skating and the PTSD. Moon's is because of a genetic predisposition and birth control (another way to violate the endocrine system).
" Sure, PC has taken over most everything, even NASCAR. Those "men" you speak of might have a big fine or even a several game suspension if they pulled those stunts today. The power of the purse-strings & pocketbook is mighty. "
You may be right about that. Although, I cannot see the connection between political correctness and requiring everyone drive more or less the same "cookie cutter" cars. OTOH, those MEN might choose to stick to dirt tracks and real cars rather than take part in such a watered down and pussified "sport".
" Y'all might think the good old days were great!!! but a closer look might show some tarnished and tatteredness. "
Yep but they were also usually a helluva lot more fun.

K-rod; the heart rate thing is a misnomer. Before the green, yes after, not that high. Nostalgia always remembers the good stuff and forgets the bad. Bill C, right on, all motorsports has become a "spec racer" deal. There is NO mechanical and design creativity anymore.
When I lived in NC, the local story was the time Curtis Turner landed his 180 Cessna on Highway 150 to buy bourbon at the ABC store at The corner of 150 and 16. True? don't know. Cool/Funny ? Yup.

RE:" Are you sure? "
Yes. Other than some minor twitches of their hands/arms and feet/legs with the occasional neck movements there just aren't that many muscles being used. They're sitting on their ass for dogsake.
RE:" Climbing down a cliff doesn't require any work either, right? "
Uh, whatever. An apples to shingles kind of comparison, eh? Are you taking a page out of Odie's book and will be spouting gibberish completely unrelated to the subject under discussion too?
RE:" Ha ha ha, Aunty, are you the cardiovascular expert of A-S? Ha ha ha ha "
Well, I don't really know, K-Rod. Are there any cardiologists or other doctors, nurses, emt's or other medical professionals who hang out here? Any cardiac patients or folks who have had heart problems?
I watched my father have the first of 4 heart attacks when I was six; he was 48. Number 5 got him. I watched my mum have a coronary when I was nine; other than other kids my age that is, as my mum had her coronary at a girl scout meeting and she was the only adult present at the time. She was 51. Both times I was the only other person around and had to "handle it" until the pros showed up. Over the years, until her death from cancer, she had at least 3 more heart attacks and some other "iffies" which means that they weren't major enough to cause measurable biological changes.
I grew up knowing that it could happen to either at any time. I usually knew in general what their docs said and specifically when I went along with them to their appointments particularly after my dad died and my mum grew older. All of us kids had to learn the signs and symptoms and how to do CPR "just in case". In the case of da's third, mum and I were taking him to the hospital when he went into full arrest. This was pre 911 or in its infancy and it was often quicker to take them rather than wait. I was 13 I think; she drove like hell (of course not a cop in sight) and I performed cpr on him for about 10 or 15 minutes (seemed like hours) until we got to the ER.
Over time I got pretty good at reading the signs, though mum and da had almost entirely opposite symptoms, go figure. It became a mantra in my house that "If you gotta ask the question ("Should I go to the hospital?") then you're going."
Like I said, I dunno if I'm any kind of an expert but I certainly ain't no virgin about things cardiac.
Oh, almost forgot K-Rod, I had my own heart attack 6 years ago, when I was 40.

Are you sure?
"Yes. Other than some minor twitches..."
Hello? Wow, NASCAR drivers must make the car operate by jedi mind control and "minor twitches". Jet fighter pilots prolly just sit on their ass as well, eh Aunty? All old man Earnhardt ever did was just sit on his ass. Phhht. No exercise. No work performed. Puullleeeze.
Maybe before you judge you should walk a little in their shoes or at lease keep an open mind and listen to what they have to say. Seriously, Mark Martin would disagree as would the rest of the drivers. It is definitely a workout.
I was right to think the work equation would go over like that. Sorry 'bout that.
"though mum and da had almost entirely opposite symptoms, go figure."
That is as expected. The fact is women have different symptoms than men.
Researchers have found that women may notice symptoms earlier than men. Men usually have symptoms right before or during the attack, but women can have symptoms for weeks before the attack. The most common symptoms that women notice a month or more before a heart attack are unusual fatigue, sleep disturbances, shortness of breath, indigestion, and anxiety. But some people never have any symptoms. Chest pain is more likely a common symptom for men than women.
Take care, aunty, the risk for you is much greater than most and now not only for another heart attack, but additionally the risk of arrhythmias and even Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD) due to the infarction/ischemia/tissue damage... or even long term heart failure...
"Are there any cardiologists or other doctors, nurses, emt's or other medical professionals who hang out here?"
I am sure there are one or two around here that know a lot more than you regarding "things cardiac". Fearless leader Il Duce' is one of 'em.

RE:" Chest pain is more likely a common symptom for men than women. "
That was the primary difference between them, K-Rod. Da always had chest, shoulder and upper arm pain and mum never did. I don't think she had much in the way of long-term symptoms; hers were pretty immediate and included nausea and sudden fatigue.
I know the risks are somewhat higher for me but my attack was well before I started treatment for my mental illness. I was drugged for 13 years by the VA for a heart condition (PAT's, etc)that I never had because no one thought to consider anything other than that. Since I started on the correct psych meds and other treatment I haven't had so much as a whisper of cardiac problems.
RE:" I am sure there are one or two around here that know a lot more than you regarding "things cardiac". Fearless leader Il Duce' is one of 'em. "
I'm sure there are more than that but so far nothing from them and you asked about my experience/expertise which is all that I can address.
