The left, continuing with the "everyone knows" theme from last week, implies that everyone knows that most wealthy people did not earn their wealth, they either inherited it or obtained it "on the backs of others." Paris Hilton is the poster child of this philosophy because she inherited.

Most wealthy people have earned their wealth through hard work and good decision making, not inheritance.

http://www.ncpa.org/pub/st/st289/st289b.html

It is commonly assumed that inheritances are a major source of wealth inequality and that the offspring of wealthy families tend to be as rich as their parents due to bequests. This perception is one reason why many people support taxing estates at death. But an individual's skills and personal choices are far more important in determining household wealth than inheritances. In fact, the contribution of inheritance is surprisingly small. ...

In general, the link between inheritances and wealth is very tenuous. According to data from the 2004 Survey of Consumer Finances:8

* Among the wealthiest 1 percent, with a net worth averaging $32 million per household, 17 percent of their wealth, or about $5.5 million, came from bequests. [See Figure III.]
* Among the poorest 50 percent, with a net worth averaging $158,000 per household, almost 7 percent, or $10,740 of their net wealth, was a result of bequests.

Paris Hilton is doing what many people do who have not earned the wealth they have., she is spending it fastly, furiously, and foolishly. Multi-million dollar lottery winners often act in a similar fashion, as do recipients of govt entitlements. It is human nature to assign personal value to that which is earned, whether money, education, housing, jobs, whatever.

Free education, free healthcare, free housing, free job, all without value.

She irks me for one specific reason. That stupid ignorant spoiled little bitch bought a Mercedes McLaren SLR. She is not qualified to operate such a high performance piece of equipment as that.

Kermit, you are obscenely creul. Didn't you read what Ms Hilton said? She said,

"I did not do it on purpose at all,"

Get it? Not only did she not do it on purpose, she did not do it on purpose "AT ALL!"

For God's sake man, what more do you want?

But seriously, folks, what is there about Paris Hilton that's not to hate?

Tremendous unearned wealth, arrogance, perfect beauty, impenetrable stupidity.

To me, she's the personification of Ronald Reagan's America.

Kermit, do you remember the good christian conservatives who were sure that President Reagan was the Anti-Christ?

Ronald Wilson Reagan.

Count the letters.

6-6-6

Better to be "obscenely creul" than cruelly obscene.
You can relate to "poster child of the Left's seething hatred of wealth and productivity", can't you, Ed?

Kermit, I don't really seethe that much anymore.

Usually I just stew.

Occasionally I steam.

I have poached.

"The left, continuing with the "everyone knows" theme from last week, implies that everyone knows that most wealthy people did not earn their wealth, they either inherited it or obtained it "on the backs of others."

Tell that to my father - who is a founding member of the BYA24/7 club!

LL

Ed,
Stew,steam and poach?
Sounds like a Ronco ad. Or a Martha Stewart book. Hey, she went to jail for being arrogant and stupid too!

But, Paris isn't in jail...yet.

Fine her, it's not a jailable offense In my opinion. Just the natural hate for the rich...I hope she humbles and matures.

I'm with Greg.

Most folks hate Paris Hilton because of envy. How can she be allowed to have her car or any of the other high quality things she (or other rich folks) buys?

Two words... private property.

I have no envy of Paris Hilton. I have no hatred of Paris Hilton. I hope she gets even more money, more public exposure, and even more attractive.

I love seeing other people get all frothy in the mouth over something so inconsequential as someone else's wealth, status, and appearance. I see it among some conservatives... but mostly I see it in liberals.

You don't often see it in libertarians, though.

I don't hate Ms. Hilton, nor do I envy her. I do resent stupidity, in that as it impacts society it drags the mean down and the rest of us either suffer for it or have to work harder to compensate for it.

She was sentenced on the original offense and the sentence was suspended contingent on her following the probation rules. She didn't, so she goes to jail! It was her choice to break those rules. Her Choice!
Nuff said!

Um, what were you talking about again?

hideous skank.

I love this woman! What's not to like? She likes to go out and party wearing short skirts and no panties, perfect woman in my book.

Hey, Paris Hilton broke the law. When I went to jail for driving on a suspended license, I did'nt know my license was suspended and lo and behold that did'nt matter because I BROKE THE LAW!!!! Just because one has money does'nt mean they are above the law. Get over yourself Paris, you are just ONE person in this world.
