This is pretty much the same scenario that started the Jena controversy (blacks stomping a white kid)and the outcome was to show that the black kids were victims and should get off. (argument that the penalty was too harsh, that the town was racist so it was justified etc.) The circumstances are a lot different here (perps have been convicted of more serious and violent crimes in the past, victim did not instigate and has a strong self defense argument). I still wouldn't be surprised to see some carpetbagging victim class attorneys show up "to see these guys get a fair trial."

you will never see a hate crime charge on a black person. years ago in some other state, a black guy was shooting up a Mcdonalds and a black woman inside the place was scared shitless. He told her "don't worry sister- I am only shooting whitey". The prosecutor said it didn't qualify for hate crime prosecution.
