Exactly.

Gravatar Granted he made some ill advised statements that may actually be accurate but would be better left unsaid. Does she suggest that everyone in beltway who has done the same also be fired? That would leave Washington pretty much a ghost town.

Puhleeze. Malkin's right. Anyone who has seen Michael Brown on TV knows he's just as overmatched at his task as Nagin and Blanco were at theirs, and in the WashPost article Malkin cited, Brown did go on record as saying that he thought Katrina was a "standard hurricane" as late as SUNDAY.

Why would you want to hang on to a guy who -- in the midst of video of rampant looting (including by police), reports of gunfire, and dozens of N.O. cops turning tail and quitting -- said this:

I've had no reports of unrest, if the connotation of the word "unrest" means that people are beginning to riot, or you know, they're banging on walls and screaming and hollering or burning tires or whatever. I've had no reports of that.

"Burning tires?"

Brown -- someone whose public speaking skills make President Bush sound like Lawrence Olivier -- even offered himself up as a scapegoat, which I think is warranted because he's in charge and hasn't shown any indication that he knew what was going on at any one time before, during, or after.

I do, however, agree with you that White House PR people should get their walking papers, starting with Karl Rove. And don't accuse me of being a leftist because I say that, because I have been critical of Rove since the 2000 campaign, and was horrified he was going to remain in the President's sphere of influence.

The reason I like Malkin is because she's not afraid to admit Republican screw-ups. The MSM is doing its darndest to make this a Bush/FEMA screwup exclusively, exempting Blubbering Blanco and Mr. Blame-Everyone-But-Me Nagin of any responsibility. That's troubling, but there are lives at stake, and Brown hasn't given me a reason to think he's the right man for the job.
