Hopefully, Pubbies will address the issue by dealing with their own macho insecurities and letting other people get on with their lives. Nobody needs the Gary Cooper "strong, silent" routine anymore. Besides, the John Wayne "man's man" guy is usually a closet case of the worst kind. Openly gay men are only a threat to "straight" guys who aren't really sure about themselves -- i.e., guys who fish for bass.
