Gravatar I dunno if anything is gonna stick to this guy. He has been savaged in the news and blogs for two weeks now, and according to Rasmussen anyway, he just keeps moving further ahead.

Weird. Two days ago, he was down 5 to Giuliani nationally. Today he is ahead by 3 (an 8 point swing) although 100% of the news has been excoriatingly bad.

This only goes to prove that most Americans have no idea what is going on.

In a recent poll, 57% didn't even know Romney was a Mormon. A nation of idiots.

Gravatar Yes, this is low and despicable (although I'm not sure Huckabee is responsible for the article's headline choice). It's also a very shrewd move...that may prove to be too clever by half.

Thank Karl Rove's strategy to meld the interests of fiscal conservatives with the socon agenda rooted in Evangelical Christianity (but also favorable to the small government and privatization plans favored by ficons). Neither can win without the other, even though that dictates an uneasy marriage in which the socons are more frequently "humored" than "served." And although Karl probably never foresaw the prospect, the potential for this sort of ecumenical food-fight was inherent in the model.

Mitt's speech opened the door and made the topic fair game. Huck knows that Mormonism is a) heresy in the eyes of the Evangelical base and b) scarier than Scientology to the Country Club GOPers...not to mention the libs.

The real irony here is that the GOP's embrace of Christianity was supposed to immunize its reactionary social agenda from Dem attack (since religion is "off-limits" and even the Dems have believers in the fold).

If Huck succeeds in legitimizing assaults on belief in the primary race, he may take the nomination...but he will have handed the Dems a club they will happily wield in the general.

America may be a "Christian" nation, but the majority are casual Sunday-and-holiday types who are put-off by "true believers." Once piety stops being an inviolable shield, even Huck will find himself on the firing line.

Thanks, Huck, for showing us that it's not "bigoted" to attack faith. Nothing could hearten the libs more than the sight of two religious loons fighting over Jesus' relatives, sacred underwear and whether or not the Catholic mass is a form of cannibalism. Have at it!

Gravatar Romney hardly "opened the door" with his speech. Huckabee and some of the big name Evangelicals have been spewing thinly veiled innuendo for some time now.

Huckabee is a self righteous zealout who's vindictive and not all that bright. A very dangerous combination indeed.
