To be fair, Yahoo's differentiation is behavioural targeting and demographics that appeals to big brand and direct marketers in a way google does not. That currently is in the banners.
However, I agree with you about the dichotomy inside Yahoo. It's run as a consumer focused company. The marketing is consumer oriented. Of course the revenue all comes from businesses... that's an interesting situation, I think.
