But that's bullet-lead analysis, that process has been suspect since it was first introduced. Regular old "ballistic fingerprinting" don't work either. Neither does matching case marks.

There is NO WAY to conclusively prove that a particular bullet was fired from a particular gun, or that a particular casing resulted from the firing of a particular gun. At best, these techniques can narrow the field, or exclude some weapons, but the tests are never conclusive.

Gravatar Modern manufacturing precision makes these ideas complete fantasy.

give any testing facility 20 rifles... and 1 fired bullet... and see if they can figure out which one did it... fact is... they can't. They've never been able to.

Gravatar But the hot girl with the laser pointer and the cool punk music pushed some buttons and >BAM< there it is!!!! She even got a full confession after 3 minutes of interrogation.

Gravatar Because the lab workers always interrogate suspects...

I watched one episode right at the start and was struck by how vapid it was. The few other episodes I've watched glimpses of were even worse.

"Well the teens put a full-auto uzi on a pole and sent it down, spinning and it killed 3 people.

Right. The odds of any of those bullets finding a lethal target under those circumstances... Right.

CSI blows. And from the promos I've seen during football, it just keeps getting worse.

Gravatar But yeah, it's nice to see how dishonest "the premiere US Crime lab" really is.

But, you know... The government lying to the people for years on end in life and death situations is hardly news.

Gravatar I was surprised 60 minutes did the story.
