Dr. Who, g'day, nice to meet you. You mean he doesn't manage the financial balance sheet?

Woohoo, go Dr.Who! Let's see here, all generally true statements 1) doesn't really apply in our house unless it's computers and general maintainance, my DH even makes sure my car has gas in it. Whatever did I do when I was single? 2)I never like spiders, but never had any problem killing them - until I got married! Now Vox must kill every bug that enters the house. 3)Why can't I open a stubborn jar anymore? I'm very strong, but this task is beyond me since I had kids. Very odd. 4)Vox says he'd go work in a coal mine to provide for his family, praise God he doesn't have to, but I'm thankful he'd be willing to do so. 5)Amen.

I also find it interesting that most households fall into the boyjob/girljog thing whether they intend to or not, and that there is almost always a crossover somewhere and that it's different for every couple.

It's true. Julie handles the day to day financials. Doesn't change the my assertion though. I just cannot for the life of me remember to save reciepts...
Anyway.. In general, she handles the micro-finanicials... and the macro-finacials are up to me. I can't for the life of me remember to keep a receipt, and Julie has no idea what an equity is, nor could she care less. So it works out in this one area...
By the way... Jamie... How does it feel to chat with an anesthesiologist, while she's in the OR?

#1 - Not always. I LIKE machines - especially my little 14" chain saw and the tractor (now that Chris's grandfather is getting too old to do it, he lets me do the bulk of the bushhogging AND it's fun.
#2 - It is very nice to have someone else kill bugs for you. As for the other stuff, I'll admit it, I would be half way down the street if I saw one in the house.
#3 - This is true,
"If you are calling your wife to open a particularly stuborn jar, then you are hopeless, your wife is cheating on you, and you deserve it." LOL
#4 - Maybe true, Chris would say yes, but I like the partnership aspect of things. I see on an almost daily basis women who thrive on spending "their husband's money." If your husband has a good job that supports the family without you working outside the home, I think the least you could do is respect his position and not spend the money on frivolity or constantly push him to "make more."

#5 - Responsibilty is two-way: each person in a relationship has different things for which he/she should be responsible. But I see where you're going with this. (But it's weird that when alone and about to cross a busy urban street, I am really careful, and when Chris is with me, I am somewhat more likely to not pay attention to myself...he's had to grab at me more than once in this situation...which I guess is my way of saying, sometimes it's nice to be able to be dependent as along as you know (and he knows) that you CAN be independent if you need to.
Now, come on Nate, what are the girly jobs? (I know you won't say the dishes)

RJK,
that's a whole nuther issue. Don't you worry.... I'll deal with the girls in good time. I know you all have frustrations built up from years of seeing women act stupid. Fear not.. They'll get what's coming to them.

It's like Spacebunny said RJK... You want to be involved, and feel like you have a say in the process... but in the end.. you don't want the responsibilty of actually making the call. And hey... it's the best position to be in anyway.... you get to have your cake and eat it too. If it goes right, you had influence and you get to take credit... if it goes wrong, you didn't make the decision. He did.

1) Machines - Pretty much. Here at home, it is a pretty agnostic 'liberal' household but my step-dad fixes all three computers if something happens to them. He is the one who does household maintenance duties. I know Jay will probably be doing this stuff too. I don't know whether machines 'confound me'. I just couldn't be bothered. Maybe it's laziness.
2) Threats - I have a hard time killing a spider. After all, it is only trying to survive. I'm silly that way. I wouldn't mind it if Jay does it..just don't let me do it. I don't want to touch any bug or dirty rodents..again, my step-dad does this stuff for my Mom too although with some 'threats' she deals with them on her own esp. if my brother is in trouble. She's overprotective (to the extreme).

With Jay, he doesn't even like it if I walk from one end of Kingston to the other alone in broad daylight. He thinks something might happen to me. I like walking across town - sure, it takes about 3 hours, but it's good for exercise esp. up the hills. He made me promise that I won't walk in Kingston for longer than 15 minutes at a time. He told me that he would give me bus money if that's what it takes...what a peach.
3) Yep.
4) He, even now, calls the money he makes 'ours'..and when he comes up, he always gives me some money even after I tell him that I will probably only spend it on lunch. 'That's ok'.
Yet Nate, maybe I have the last vestiges of feminism here, but I would still feel like it is *HIS* because he went out and worked for it. There would be this sense of indebtedness if he went and took this kind of responsibility.
5) Responsibility: Yep, you are right.

Hey Nate, IMHO, you forgot a Biggie. It's the man's job to ensure that that family goes to Church. The man is the spiritual leader of the house. Obviously everyone is ultimately responsible for their own self in this regard, but the man should set an example and pray with his wife and kids, and do Bible studies etc.

Nate, what I'm asking is how you got the pics resized to fit on the web. For instance, I sent you a 1024x768 resolution file that's about 204k in size. The file that showed up on your website is smaller resolution, and I can't find out the size of it.
How did you change the size of the files? This makes a huge difference in your traffic stats.

Hmmmm, Nate gets about 200-300 hits per day, and Vox is about 1,500 per day, assuming near 100% overlap between Nate and Vox still doesn't quite account for it, even given multiple hits from the same person. So, I guess it's possible given that folks probably poked around on Nate's site a bit.

it would be nice to not have to do the 'boy jobs'. unfortunately, i grew up in a house with just a mom and three sisters so all the women had to share the responsabilties of the 'boy jobs'. so now when most of my single girlfriends can't do a 'boy job' they call me to do it. at work, elementary school, all females 'cept 2 guys, i'm the first called to fix the computers or anything like that. it's amazing how computer illiterate many of the women i know are. it frustrates me when a chick is unable to perform a 'boy job', but it is equally frustrating when a girl is forced to perform a 'boy job' because either her man is a wuss or she is single.

I'm pretty handy, so when I pull off something amazing from #1 (which I do pretty regularly), her genuine awe makes me strut like a cock with a dozen hens to himself.
Sometimes though she uses that to her advantage out of sheer laziness.
"You can't get it to work no matter how hard you try? You tried 'this'? You tried 'that'? And it still doesn't work? Are you sure you tried 'that'? Ok, let's go see what's up."
"Well lookit that! I do 'this' and 'that' and it works fine. Howbout that? Just my manly prowess I suppose...smoochy smoochy"
Sheesh. I figure it must be an "attention meter" thing...

Nate, I might add one more job to the list: yard work.
If it involves the basics (lawn, fences, etc) it's the man's job.
If it's "pretty" (flower garden), it's the woman's.
