Astro,
He did that whenever he challenged a feminazi presupposition.
The feminazi are right because they feel they are right, disagreement with any aspect of their feelings is the same as torture.
Although I think its torture to them because rational thought makes their brain hurt so much compared to mindlessly accepting emotion over truth.

Accepting your position that you are in fact in the majority, doesn’t disprove Nate’s position, it only adds creditability to his argument.

such stuff perpetuates a world of stereotype, illusion, and false reality.
Yeah, not like the stereotype of the "sensitive man" or "strong women who raises two kids and has a full-time job", or the illusion that women are just as good in combat as men, or the false reality that men need to cry sometimes. Bah, dang 1k limit! I'm just getting warmed up!

Shawn,
What is the purpose of a blog? For me it is to present ideas and then to discuss them. Notice that I used the word "ideas"? I've only seen one, at most two statements here that could be interpreted as a personal attack and not a criticism of an idea. Bill gets the happy distinction of being the guilty party in this. Everything else looks like criticism of a set of ideas. Please, refute the criticism, don't allege premature judgement. Examine the ideas and do it with some intellectual rigor. Come back here in a few weeks after you've read everything most of the posters on this or Vox's blog have read. I'm sure most any of us would be more than happy to supply a reading list. Is that too much to ask? Because if it is too much to ask then I'm not so sure anybody here will listen to what you have to say.

and, of course, i may be out of place on this blog. i personally have no interest to be political and argue. my interest is in the lighter side of life, and where Christ and culture meet. i hear there are some Christ followers who subscribe to this blog, so that interests me. but bashing on people that you don't know or have never talked to just seems a little childish to me.

Shawn,
My paraphrase of your position so far: “L” is a good person and she is right because I (Shawn) don’t know many people who share Nate’s values. None of you know “L” so you can’t criticize her ideas. You’re judging her unfairly. Nate is morally inferior because his blog friends judge. I’m a Christian therefore you should conform to my opinion of what Christians should be.
Your dodging the substance of Nate’s and “L’s argument.
You claim an interest in culture yet you are impotent to address even this one issue.
Athor Pel, you need to apologize to Shawn, he has read at least one series of Vox’s writings. “How to argue like a woman” or was that liberal?
There you go Shawn a personal judgmental statement, could even call it an insult, (and I have never met you) unfortunately for you the facts still seam to support it.
If you haven’t wimpered off some place, tell us why we should support L over Nate. Why is her position logically superior?

Shawn - I don't think anyone here has meant to personally attack L, whom none of us knows. I think her position is a little off, and that she makes the mistake many feminists do of thinking that men and women who are un-feminist are somehow women-haters. In truth, there is a lot of anecdotal evidence to the opposite. Does anyone else think it's funny that all of the Liberal type men that support feminist causes are actually a lot more abusive towards women in their personal lives than most conservatives (See Bill Clinton and the entire Kennedy family for examples).
No one here with the possible example of Anon on an earlier thread advocates the oppression of females, at least from anything I've read in the past several months (here and at Vox's).

This is a song and dance that we've performed many times in the past, so, with time running out, i make a decision: Wendy's…… ask if this is cool. She then says, "i guess this is ok. even though i wanted Captain D's….. She then says, "i mentioned it a few times, you know." But this is the way women are. i can't explain it. Shawna,
“now. if some of you facists”
Ah, so you’re not above the judgmental statements and name calling are you?
For the record, I am in no way disparaging your wife or your marital relationship.
Your post just serves to prove Nate’s point. You started out this thread accusing Nate of hating the idea that people don’t share his views, then you proceeded to marginalize those who do.
So far you’ve offered nothing to support the idea that Nate is wrong. The example I quoted from your own blog serves to support Nate on this issue.
None of us agree with Nate 100% on anything. We can however express our opinions and generally make others see our point, even if we respectfully cannot accept theirs.
The key with this is making our point, you still haven’t done that for yourself or for L, nor have you retracted your harsh and false statements.
BTW Nate is referred to as Natalie from time to time. It’s especially funny if the girls do it.

my point isn't in support of either. i think that L and Nate are both people with strong opinions, and i'm cool with that. there's no need for name calling, though, if someone doesn't believe what you believe. or maybe there is and that's why people shoot people.

Back to the superhero bit.
A man obsessed with bygone days of his own seeming, but not actual, heroism. Eww. (Nostalgia, OK. Obsession, bad.)
A man who knows who he is in Christ; who follows God and will not compromise His standards, even for me; who knows his own mind and seeks to have that of Christ's; who strives to fulfill his calling; who invites me to help me fulfill his purpose; who makes decisions, delegates when needed, and finishes tasks. Hero. Superhero, really, when contrasted against others. Whatever flavor he may be.

Correct me if I'm wrong, as I am sure some of you will, but I thought the whole point of discussion was to discuss, and no where in that premise does it say we should all agree all of the time. I have disagreed with some of you on certain things in the past, but if I speak my mind and catch some heat, I don't take it as a personal affront. I don't think anyone here meant anything personal against anyone. Post-modernism and Christianity are polar opposites.

cont. Lynn and I do not agree on everything, however we approach issues with grace, opennes, honesty, and love. Thus, we learn from eachother. IF you knew her, you would know a beautiful, intelligent, FUNNY, young woman who earned her masters in Theology and changed. I believe Christ would be pleased with how she sees this world. (Let us keep in mind that feminist.. in the rawest definition is about EQUALITY for all.. men, women, PEOPLE.)
The issue is how we see differences. Period. WE WANT to wrap our minds around what makes us who we are. I teach high school students, who are the most prejudicial individuals I have encountered. It is my hope that through discussion we can end dog chasing tail conversations and LEARN. First, let's listen.

Elena and Joy,
Keep your hopes up, such men exist.
I didn’t believe in the mythical “Christian woman” after college when I was single, yet I found one with ALL the charter qualities I required.
Make a detailed list of the qualities you believe important in a husband, pray for it, and don’t compromise.
Elena, send a pic to Nate he’ll post it, I’ve already decided that if anything happens to Mrs. Loquitur, I’m giving Joy a call. It wasn’t the pic (not that it hurt) but after the biscuits and gravy brag and the booby story, well what can I say? Red pay attention here other guys would be all over this. Kristy, were still waiting to hear bout you in more detail. Anyway Elena, don’t give up and we do have a number of single guys who stop by that were attracted to the blog for the same reasons you were.

Seriously,
You’re not going to get out of Columbia with out some Latin guy marrying you. Just remember that culture has a very strong male perspective on relationships. Wow, you don't read a blog for a few hours and look out!!! First things first, L, if you are going to make such statements, please back up why you believe these things or stop saying them, not that we don't care how you "feel" about a subject, but you are putting your feelings out there as facts, which only weakens your argument. I believe that women are as good and worthy as men, I believe we are equal in God's eyes, but after that the equalities end. Vox and I had very traditional wedding vows except that I refused to say "obey" because I was not going to vow before God to obey everything he said. What if told me to jump off a cliff (I realize that Nate and Dr.Who may do this anyway!)

Although the waitress is friendly and calls me by name, she isn’t as beautiful as you. Not only did I pay her for fulfilling my carnal desires, I left a tip too.

Red,
Read her last post. She doesn’t care if you cheat!
Why haven’t you proposed already?
Let’s review the facts.
1. Hot chick
2. Cooks
3. Likes outdoor stuff
4. Practically begs to be deflowered
5. Wants to get married, stay home and pamper her man.
Red you live in Dearborn drive up Telegraph to Pontiac to work. I guess you work in the auto industry. It’s not like your giving up paradise. Sure maybe Abdul at the 7-11 will miss you but so. She lives in TN, is 25, hot, likes to cook and wants to please her man.
Look man all the auto jobs are going south or overseas. GM has plants in TN, if that’s who you work for. What’s so great about your job that you haven’t at least tried for this girl?

Ok not really on that last part, its called marriage, eventually it will turn into “help me with the house work” and “twice a year” like the rest of us. But you do get the honeymoon and trying to have babies. Did I mention she likes to cook and she’s still young enough to be semi trainable?

oh, man, spanish is HUGE on the list! i'm bilingual and majored in spanish in college. i teach english to hispanic kids at work, actually today was my last day at work 'cause i'll be gone next year. i'm about to head off to the year-end soccer party for some of our girls. don't get me started on how important spanish is to me, i might not stop.

Joy,
Shout out to another Nashvillian!!!
So what's taking you to Colombia? Is this missions work?
Sí, estoy de acuerdo contigo. El hombre quien será tu esposo futuro necesite a tener la habilidad de hablar español.
Feel free to correct my Spanish grammar and spelling!
And for the crowd...much love to my Southern sibs in Christ. (Yes, we love you Yankees too.)

Just trying this out its been a long time since I was in Spain or CA.
Your future Hubby needs to speak Spanish too, right?
Porque
Men and women have a hard enough time understanding each other in English.

Y'all think I'm spoken for? I give off that vibe?? That explains an AWFUL lot! Anyway, I'm pretty sure that now isn't the time, considerin' I'm pretty sure that we're about to go into total war one way or the other.
Si. Yo hablo español. I'm actually a bit rusty at it, but I had enough that I consider my skill "intermediate". With a little practice, I could be pretty good.
As for being in Southwest North Carolina, it depends on a myraid of variables.

i would easily love to return the comments in spanish, but i know nate all too well. anytime i say something in spanish in front of him he says, "quit your cussin'" i don't want to make nate mad at me for screwin' with his blog. but yes, the future hubby does need to know spanish, simply because i want my kids to be bilingual and it wouldn't be fair to him for me to be able to converse with our kids when he can't participate. even though i live in the US, a good part of my life, even thoughts, are in spanish. and to have a man that i can't share that with would almost be torture. also, when a guy speaks to me in spanish...i tend to melt.
take note single men...take a spanish lesson or two and it'll go a long way with me.
elena, i love nashville, however i'm a chattanoogan currently, at least until the end of july, then i'm without city. we should get together sometime...i think we could have great fun.

Been there. As I recall, that section of 64 is a teensy bit curvy, as all good mountain roads should be.
It's about 8 hours from me. (I'm in Raleigh).

Ok, no offense to Red or FA, but who wants to bet that Joy falls head over heels in love with a tall, dark, and handsome South American within a month of her arrival down there...if she melts when he speaks Spanish, how much more so will melt when it's with an accent...note to the men...accents turn us on, we can't help it. And no, Nate, Southern accents don't count usually (sometimes one from bayou country works okay).
FA- I thought when someone said SW NC you must have been near Asheville. Are you at school in Raleigh or work out there? (My brother works in RTP.)

David,
7 Years. She wanted to plan something special for us this year. I think were going to Kevin Cosners for dinner but she wont say. All she wanted from me was her oil changed and the garden tilled (which I do anyway). I’m planning to take her to Jackson in a 2 or 3 weeks for a long weekend.

RJK, this has been of great concern to my family for years now. they're afraid of my coming home hitched to a south american and moving down there for good. it's a running joke in my family that i'm gonna go to Colombia, find myself a filthy rich drug lord, get him saved, then live off the money for the rest of our days doing 'good' for the world...hehe...could be fun.
but seriously, i've had one too many friends and acquaintances that have had foreign men convince them that they are in love and get married just to have the marriage from hell, and it turns out his main goal as US residency...i will be very wary of marrying someone who can't get a residency on his own, or at least won't do the best he can to get one.

I have lived in Raleigh for the past 16 years, having moved from Greensboro when I was 5. I graduated from North Carolina State University this past August and I am currently working in a job that doesn't pay especially well and isn't very enjoyable for me. But that's another story. So, yeah, I live in Raleigh, and I was actually out in RTP today, yesterday, and the day before.
As for the accent, I have no use for a woman who thinks a South American accent is sexier than a Southern Accent. That's an impossibility, like a Square Circle, or a Manly Frenchman.

If one was a single missionary to a Spanish-speaking country and wanted to continue that work alongside the spouse, the spouse would either need to know Spanish or be willing to learn it. Was thinking of such a scenario. Not sure if Joy is interested in doing mission work; just thought it might be a possibility for her one day.
