People see California as the world's fifth biggest economy, and that place is so far in debt and drowning in so much socialism it's a joke. Even Schwarzenegger refuses to peddle to the hispanic voters because he clearly sees how much damage Mexican illegals are doing to the state's finances. You know he doesn't see much hope for turning that debt mountain around when he doesn't play the games the Feds play with hispanic voters, or seeing an advantage in promoting better ties with the Mexican government through a more tolerant approach to illegals.
So imagine what the South could do with its own self-determination... it'd become the centre of responsible economic management and limited government. Eventually attracting the best businesses and becoming THE economic powerhouse of the world.

Sydney used to be the original colony of free-trade advocates, they were against the protectionism and socialism of the Victorian colony (the Victorians had a superiority complex, still do, seeing that it wasn't settled by convicts), but the Victorians won out and that's why Melbourne became the capital of Australia from 1901 to 1927 (the Sydney-siders never gave up, they still hate Melbourners with a passion to this day).
These days Sydney has become a cess-pool of 'multi-culturalism', and even the state government of NSW and the federal government see an urgent need to get new settlers to settle some place else. They all seem to want to settle in bloody Sydney. It's getting real bad there.

I knew the number in favor of Independence was low, but I was under the impression that it was closer to 1/3 against, 1/3 for and 1/3 neutral.
Actually VQ, it was pretty hard to find anyone who was neutral on the matter. It was 3/4 against.
Better idea: kick the Left Coast and the northeastern states out and get on with life.

Like the rest of the country, the south of today has been talked out of its God-given right to self-determination and liberty, in exchange for collectivist socialism, via the government indoctrination machine and it's willing accomplices in the press. The more I read about it, the more convinced I grow the CSA was all that was left of the colonial federation of 1776...and the same forces that destroyed it from within are rotting the whole nation now!
