Gravatar Depends on the crime the felon committed. If he did something like sell drugs or evade his taxes, he should be pardoned. If you're talking rapists, molesters, and murderers, then you're absolutely right.

Gravatar Hrm.. I meant to only include those sentenced to death... my bad.

Gravatar Sure, why not. San Quentin has over 600 men on death row and they are worried about space in the future. Instead of taxing the citizens to build a larger death row, let's just open up some space on the current one!

Gravatar Jeanne.. Have I told you today that I love you?

Gravatar Absolutely! Beyond the capital crimes (and I'll include rape and child molestation, as they SHOULD be capital crimes) the rest, we put in the fields doing all those jobs that, according to Mr. Bush, the rest of us won't do. Then there's no need for the immigrant farm workers, and the price of my grocery bill per week should go down a bit more. Works for me.

Gravatar Now are we talking live fire ballistics testing, or military use heavy munitions for "dud" testing, i.e. pounding on the round with a heavy mallet to make sure it doesn't injure troops in training?? If a prisoner makes it 30 years without getting a live round instead of a dud, then he gets pardoned.

Gravatar Of course, there's nothing prevening some QC&A by slipping in known live rounds on occasion, just to keep things interesting. heh heh heh.

Gravatar "If a prisoner makes it 30 years without getting a live round instead of a dud, then he gets pardoned."

Unless his crime was against a child. No pardons for anyone harming a child.

Nate, I love you too!

Gravatar Red! Where ya been? We've missed ya buddy!

Gravatar Yeah, just as long as I don't have to watch it...

Gravatar Uses for felons:
Felons sentenced to death; Use these for testing new drugs and surgical techniques until they wear out. Using them for target practice, though gratifying, is wasteful. Maybe we could try new ammo on them when we've run out of other things to test, like as air-bags and such.

Violent felons not sentenced to death; Hard labor of the "turning big rocks into small rocks" kind, or making prison uniforms, license places, and other labor required of the state.

Non-violent felons; Build/repair roads, trash-pickup, and other "outside" labor required by the state.

The only problem with this approach is making sure this is not a money-making venture for the state. Otherwise it could get complicated.

Gravatar Why don't we put them in an arena and pay to watch them kill each other instead? And, then, to spice things up a bit, we can put in a lion or two from time to time.

What do you mean by effective? Effective in killing them or in maiming them. There's a whole lot worse things that can happen to the body than just dying that I don't think anyone deserves.

Oh, and making prisoners do hard labor seems pretty reasonable to me(non-death row prisoners because death row prisoners shouldn't be around to do hard labor). Prison should obviously be harder than real life, not easier.

Gravatar Definitely! If we are talking child molesters can we get someone who's not a very good shot. I don't want them to go too quickly.

Gravatar Yeah, SB, but I don't want them aiming at the big head the first time. First, we go for the little one, let that sit for a few days, then revisit.

Gravatar Where do I sign up. Been wanting to try out some new round for the .357.

Gravatar If I thought our criminal justice system was fair and capable of prosecuting in a competent manner, then I would support the death penalty. But, given the way things are going, I could easily end up being considered a political dissident or even worse an enemy of the state and if I find myself in a federal prison, I don't want to be tortured and abused.
For what it's worth though, I think child molesters should be taken out back and shot. I co-direct the nursery and preschool ministry at church and I did a search on sex offenders in our area and compiled a photo file on them for our own records. It made me want to lop off their heads just looking at their photos.

Gravatar Hey there bud.... I've been lurking in the background. The muse has been elsewhere, so, nothing to say, keep you're mouth shut and listen is what I was taught. I learned.

Gravatar Jeanne-

"Unless his crime was against a child. No pardons for anyone harming a child"

Don't ya think that's what the QC&A is for?? Get some use out of the poor, dumb, sumnabitches. Do I have ta spell EVERYTHING out????

Gravatar Nate, this is totally off topic but I have a medical question that I would like Dr Who's opinion on, if she is willing.
I have premature junctional contractions which cause supraventricular tachycardia. In the past they've been sporadic and short in duration. Lately they have been increasing in frequency. This Saturday I had an event that took my heart rate to 200bpm for 45 minutes before it slowed down. It was going so fast the paramedics couldn't get a proper read on their EKG. I would like Dr. Who's opinion on my condition and also on a procedure called catheter ablation.
Thanks, and sorry for hijacking your post.

Gravatar Dys,
One thing to remember is... Doctors really suck at explaining things to patients. DrWho actually throws PVCs all the time too, but they are unrelated to the Supraventrical Tachycardia.

The Abalation is something that will help the ST, but not the PVC's.

The abalation is a very benign procedure. No big deal at all. It doesn't even require general anesthetic... they just give some happy juice. If you have specific questions about the procedure... or hell... anything for that matter just email us. DrWho doesn't mind at all.

Gravatar RED!!!!! glad to see ya commentin' again!

Gravatar Hey Nate,
I sent this email to Vox, but haven't heard from him yet and I noticed one of your post made a mention of the subject. I'd like to here your thoughts.

Here it is:

A couple of my pastor friends said I should read Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey and eventually I acquiesced. Most of his information is just taking a myth and giving the truth of each statement. The one I found most strange is the one entitled:

Myth: Gold is a good investment and will cover me if the economy collapses.

Truth: Gold has a poor track record and isn't used when an economy collapses.

He goes on to say that "gold is a lousy investment with a long track record of mediocrity" and "gold is not used when economies fail." He says that history
shows that in economic collapses people revert back to a black market or barter system and that gold loses nearly all value. His solution is that it would be better to invest in real estate or canned soup.

Through my study of history and writers like yourself I've come to conclusion that its a very good investment in bad times. So, can you make an argument against what Dave Ramsey has written.

Gravatar Thanks Nate and Dr. Who. It's not the PVCs causing skipped beats that concerns me, I think of them as cardiac hiccups.
It's the tachycardia that concerns me, especially when it tops off at 200bpm.
I'll be going over all this with the cardiologist tomorrow. Praying right decisions are made.
Again, thank you very much and apologies for hijacking your post.

Gravatar Dystopia , I will be praying that God gives the doctors wisdom and that you will experience God's peace as you consider what to do about your symptoms.

Gravatar Dys, Dr.Who - what about atrial flutter? That would get the heart rate up to 200bpm's, right? But, then, too, isn't ventricular tachycardia considered a complication of PVCs - have you been drinking too much coffee or alcohol? Ablation is still a legitimate treatment in either if meds didn't work, right?? Just wondering.

Gravatar WhiskyGirl,
Supra is different than ventricular. PVC's can progress to ventricular tachycardia. But not to Supra.

Gravatar Right, isn't that what I said?

Dystopia said:
"I have premature junctional contractions which cause supraventricular tachycardia."

So, doesn't Dystopia have a chronic condition of Premature Junctional Contractions (PJCs) (heart beat originates in AV junction) that have the complication of ventricular tachycardia, brought on, possibly, by coffee or alcohol? Maybe this past episode was ventricular tachycardia.

Dystopia also mentioned supraventricular contractions (AKA Paroxysmal Supraventricular Contraction, PSVT), a different disorder (heart beat originates in SA node), also exacerbated by coffee and alcohol and also causing rapid heart rate.

The difference between the two (of where the heart beat begins) can't be determined without an EKG, which the paramedics were unable to perform.

Atrial flutter was just thrown in there as another possibility, independent of previous diagnoses.

Ablation is a legitimate treatment in both disorders, though, right?

Gravatar Yeah, I know, I'm a geek. Sorry.

Gravatar in economic collapses people revert back to a black market or barter system and that gold loses nearly all value.

This is true. Because; Hardly anyone has gold and it's very difficult to divide, both of which pretty much kick it out of being "money". Add to this the fact that gold is of no intrinsic value (can't eat it, can't drink it, can't defend yourself with it, etc) makes gold a very poor choice in a total collapse. Things that people want, i.e., smokes, bullets, food, sex, weapons, etc. become money.

Gold tends to be "good" for collapses because it will come out the other side of the collapse better than just about anything else, and it's transportable.

Gravatar I'm in agreement w/ the spirit of your idea, Nate, though I'd suggest expanding it a bit & using certain congress members, as well. Perfect targets, & they'd burst like balloons from all the hot air.
