All I cared about was Bush's remark; "...people who will not legislate from the bench"

That's what it's all about. In fact, I wouldn't care if they didn't overturn Roe, that's Congress' job anyways. Let Congress pass a law either turning abortion over to the states, or outlawing it. If we have good Judges they respect the law, they don't invent the law.

Gravatar Roe overturned State Law. State Law will come before the court again, and this woman will then site Roe to over turn it again.

Nice to see you're already lowering the bar though.

Gravatar Slavery was also settled law, so was separate-but-equal, Separation of powers, state sovereignty, ammendments 1-27 of the Constitution, etc.

So what?

What is so special about lefty causes that they get a "settled forever" seal while right causes get retried with every court?

Gravatar Because the left do not "live and let live". They must control and leech. They will not be happy until America is Amareeka.
As long as we have any rights left to us, they will continue to try and take them away.

Gravatar Announcement of the nominee is tonight at 8 CST.

Gravatar Except Bill, there are no "good" judges. I defy you to find a single one of them that either respect or even uphold the law.

Gravatar Nice to see you're already lowering the bar though.

Who was that addressed to? Seems like me, but it didn't refute anything I said. Try again please, and this time, read what I wrote.

Gravatar BG

We will be waiting with baited breath,, or should I say beer breath.

Gravatar there are no "good" judges. I defy you to find a single one of them that either respect or even uphold the law.

Clarence Thomas seems pretty good. He's a strong First Amendment supporter, going against many Republicans on this issue. He's also a big supporter of Second Amendment rights, and he's in favor of a very narrow interpertation of the Commerce Clause. From what I've read, Thomas is serious about what he terms an "originalist" view of the Constitution.

Gravatar Thanks darlin'.

Gravatar Bill,
Lowering the bar... rather than looking for a die hard conservative, now you're just hoping for someone who isn't a judicial tyrant.

that's lowering the bar.

Gravatar No good judges? None at all?

Gravatar " No good judges? None at all?"

Hrm.. I don't know that I can go that far... I really like Scalia and Thomas... and I have a great deal of respect for Rhenquist... and a few of the boys down in New Orleans...

Spacebunny probably has her reasons though.

Gravatar Bush, Schumer, Kennedy and Specter are ideological soul mates. She would not be getting the nomination if she was a conservative by any other name. If this woman becomes a justice and turns out to believe in the constitution in any way, shape or form, I'll kiss GW's ass at the annual Gay Pride parade in SF.

Gravatar Yeah, right Nate.
She doesn't carp the garp of the Roman Catholic CULT, so she's got to be an abomination from hell, according to its best liars.
They should know, after all - they've been taking US closer to it all the time...especially the little boys!

Gravatar Bwa-Ha!

John G. Roberts

Quoting;
http:// www.allianceforjustice.or...erts_report.pdf

While working under Presidents Reagan and Bush, Mr. Roberts supported a hard-line, anti-civil rights policy that opposed affirmative action, would have made it nearly impossible for minorities to prove a violation of the Voting Rights Act and would have “resegregated” America’s public schools. He also took strongly anti-choice positions in two Supreme Court cases, one that severely restricted the ability of poor women to gain information about abortion services, and another that took away a key means for women and clinics to combat anti-abortion zealots.

He serves on the Legal Advisory Council of the latter group, which states as its mission the promotion of “free enterprise, private ownership of property, balanced use of private and public resources, limited government, and a fair and efficient judiciary,” euphemisms for hostility toward environmental and worker protections and a commitment to an ultra-conservative, anti-government legal agenda, including the confirmation of President Bush’s pro-corporate judges.

John Roberts’ legal career and professional writings reveal that he is out of the mainstream in his legal views in a number of areas, most prominently civil rights and the right to choose. His record as a member of the Bush and Reagan administrations reflects opposition to the rights of women and minorities, as well as a restrictive view of the proper role of federal courts in protecting the environment and the rights of criminal defendants. His comments about the Rehnquist Court reveal Roberts’ extremist ideology, a view confirmed by his membership in and connections to ultra-conservative legal groups.

Gravatar He's down, Bill.... Kick him.

ARRGH!

Gravatar "Except Bill, there are no "good" judges. I defy you to find a single one of them that either respect or even uphold the law."

Associate Justice Clarence Thomas. Not just "good". Brilliant. Fantastic. Magnificent.

If only he could be cloned and 9 of him could don robes and sit on high....

Gravatar From my blog last night, another quote:

QUOTE -- "Roe v. Wade is the settled law of the land. ... There's nothing in my personal views that would prevent me from fully and faithfully applying that precedent."
Judge John G Roberts.

Smokescreen? Covering his ass? I hope so.

Gravatar As if it matters.

Gravatar I would hold off on the gloatin' boys. This ol' boy has no paper trail at all. After spending the better part of 4 hours searching for anything on him, I find nothing.

Nothing on the 2nd Amendment. Nothing on Baby Killin'. Nothing on Homer-sexual marryin'. Nothin' on Nothin'.

In short.. Congratulations... we just got another Sandra Day O'Connor.
