"I want ya to know that every time someone buys a Springfield I put another notch on my belt."
A quick note before I bail for the weekend. Nothing's final yet, but I plan on buyin' one of those in a .40 as soon as possible. I got the wife's ok some time ago, I just need to scrape together the cash and find a private party seller to keep it off the state's rolls. I'll let you know when it's ok to notch your belt again, and if you're interested, I'll even send you pictures (I'd need an email address though.)

Not specifically ATF related, but in the vein of interests...
I'm finally going to be looking at motorcycles, probably in the spring. I know your preference for bike type, Nate, but I'm going in a different direction. I want one that can be ridden to work in the city (lights, signals, etc) but also ridden up in the mountains on the trails (heavier suspension, etc).
Back in the day, it was the Yamaha Enduro we'd use for this. Don't know what's good nowadays...any suggestions?

Well, it would be a concealed-carry gun, so probably not the tactical. I'm liking the 3" sub-compact.
Sounds like I may not get it as soon as I'd hoped. I have to fill my wife's ear holes with diamond studs first. That will likely be a Christmas or 1st Anniversary (New Years Day) Gift.

I've been lookin at the XD's for awhile, went by this mornin, didn't get totally satisfactory answers, maybe you can add to.
I like the .45GAP 4", but, the dang GAP ammo is $16.95/50, they don't sell it in 1000-round boxes.
Another odd thing is they couldn't find any extra magazines online or in-stock. Is GAP that new and hard-to-get?
The .45GAP also comes in a 5" - any advantage to that?
Is color important at all? I think black-olive-silver/black (bit-tone) are the options.
What is your opinion(s) of this gun, and is there any comparable .45ACP that's worth considerin - I'll probably purchase next weekend, assumin the rain leaves by then.
thanks.

45.GAP is new, and therefore availability is an issue. The upside to it, is mag capacity.
It absolutely performs as well as .45ACP.
I like the tactical model, because the longer barrel means more oomph, and more accuracy. I don't mind the extra weight. Color doesn't matter, except that black or that green are easier to hide than shiny metal. Armory Cote is badass. Holds up great.
As far as comparible guns... In .45?
The Taurus 24/7 is one I'd look at. High Tech gun right there. NRA semi auto of the year.
Other than that you're talking HK and Glock... I think CZ is making a semi .45 too... maybe a Baby Eagle?
Lots of options.
The XD and 24/7 would be at the top of my list though.

You got a lot of options WB.
If you want to be able to take it along when your friends get out their dirt bikes, you want a Kawasaki KLR 650. The Swamp Thing as we call it. Great commuter. Handles great. Good on the big roads... And you can jump over most cars with it.
If you're looking for something more civilized, it would be really hard to pass up the Suzuki V-strom. I'd go with the 650. But JAC would call me a fag for it... Still, if ya hadn't ridden in a while, the insurance will be a lot less, and it's plenty of motor.

I've gotten pretty good with a Glock 9mm. I've been studying and all the opinions I've read, NRA mag, etc. say a 9mm just doesn't have the stopping power of a .45. Of course, if you hit 'em in the right spot, I I 'magine a BB would do.

I asked him, "Here in the US?"

I said, "Huh. Thanks for letting me shoot it."
Maybe he knows of some new breed of deer or something.

I haven't fired the XD in .45 GAP, but I handled a couple, and I just don't like the way it feels in my hand. It doesn't fit me. If you want a .45 ACP with a high-cap mag, look at the Kimber polymer hicaps. Don't buy the Kimber mags though. Buy the Para-Ordinance 13-rounders.
After shooting my Kimber BP Pro 10 II, shooting my friend's Springfield singlestack .45 was a letdown. Even the Kimber TLE doesn't feel as good. Maybe it's just getting used to one gun, but I've found the .45 I'm satisfied with.

I do not like the Glock grip angle. It's all wrong. They go bang every time though and that is what counts for the people that carry them.
I'm horrible at hitting anything with a pistol. But I take some comfort in the very high likelihood that if I do use a pistol in self defense I will be shooting at a target less than 10 yards away.
Even I can put a pistol bullet in a torso at that range.

"Pistols in the correct calibers have been used to take every major large game animal in the world."
I don't doubt it, but I was just sorta curious as to what he would do with the bits of deer that were left once he shot it. Or what he was gonna use as his backstop, after hitting the deer.
It's not like there is a rabid bunch of deer out there running down hunters that he would need that kind of stopping power. Oh well.
Now, Boar I would hunt with it. Or Moose or Elk or Bear.
He had fit that scope on and had four rings holding it on and it still moved when he fired it. He even had these little aluminum adjusters between the scope and the gun and after firing a few rounds the adjusters were shear off. She he got some steel ones and was trying those.
To each his own.

EZ - you have to talk your wife into going to the range?! I have to beg my husband to take me! Well, maybe not beg, but I'm usually the one to bring up a trip there. Here's a question for you hunters out there - yes I could probably look it up on the web, but that's not much fun and I get so little time on my computer these days with school in full swing. During my absence last week I was touring a couple of castles in England and saw some of the hugest racks I've ever personally laid eyes on and my uncles hunt moose. What were they? Did the local deer get that big there back in the day (these racks were likely a couple of hundred years old at least)? They were amazing.

Eco Zoe,
As a former big Springfield man myself, I’m telling ya there is nothing finer than the Kimber PRO CDP II for a commander sized gun. I had decided before I bought it that I wanted a top of the line gun and price wouldn’t hold me back. I checked out major custom houses, Wilson etc and I kept coming back to Kimber. Best carry gun I every bought. I’ve been shooting IDPA with it all summer and have around 2000 to 2500 rounds through it and its perfect. It’s about a $1,000 bucks but its worth every penny.
You should check it out, and buy one, heck JAC will probably post pics just to piss Nate off.

Follow up on Papa Pete’s comment. As a former Para shooter, I’ve never had good luck with Para mag springs they go bad even when they are stored empty. One P-14 mag of mine was used 4 times on the same day and stored for about 10 years failed to feed due to bad spring. I hate all things Para Ordnance, although since I still own one I’m thinking of turning it into a pin gun.

"I do not like the Glock grip angle. It's all wrong. They go bang every time though and that is what counts for the people that carry them."
Guess it depends on the user. I know there's a few different types of Glock generations: different grips, different sights, with/without rails. I prefer the kind models with rails that have the little notches for each finger in the grip. They fit like a glove in my hand. The other models (newer ones?) are too blocky, though.
My only love/hate feature on the Glock is the trigger-safety. Since it's built into the trigger, it's as if you have no redundant safety at all. I like the 1911-style safety on the back, wish the Glocks had both.

I tried the 4 and 5" models - same grip. I 'magine it depends on hand-breadth. I tried other guns to compare, and it definitely has a smaller grip - like I said, the dealer said the smaller grip was a feature - more control, comfort, etc etc - he described the other grips I tried as too big and uncomfortable, but I liked 'em better. Need to try 'em out to judge for sure.

I like my Glock's trigger and the half-cock single action. The only accidents I've heard from it are two LE officers who, after foot chases and following SOP to keep their weapon drawn, kept their fingers in the guard and fired it when reholsering. Any DA pistol would have fired though.
Anyways, I sat and played with and fondled my trigger enough to know it well. I don't even notice the half-cock now.

I don't see how it's possible unless they just lose all motor functions. It's a whole quarter inch of trigger movement before it's even ready to fire. Wow. Quite a lot of mileage from the ATF this week....
Nate: "You got a lot of options WB."
So it would seem. And thanks to both you and JAC for the info. It seems I have a fun winter ahead of me, checking out your recommendations.
JAC: "How long's your commute? More than 30 miles of superslab and you'll grow to hate the Thing."
The normal commute's only 20 miles round trip. But there are occasional trips to another site, about 50 miles round, and less occasional trips to Denver, about 100 miles round. If the problem with the KLR is patchable with aftermarket shocks or something, I'll keep it on the list.
JAC: "It's tall and heavy. Just how big a boy are ya'?"
6'1" and 2-too-much. I'll not have much difficulty with most bikes, methinks. Especially as I won't be layin' any over. *cough*cough*
Nate: "I get the feeling WB is lookin' for something more civilized."
Yeah, you pegged it. I'll definitely see more pavement than dirt, so those dual-sport types are just the ticket. But a straight street bike doesn't let me take advantage of my locale.

"I'm looking for a small .357 snubbie to fill that hole in my collection, and I've read good things about the Taurus."
Papa, I have a Taurus 605 Stainless.
It is a nice gun, fun to shoot .38s, .357 on the other hand are rough but fine for the personal protection role.
I think the only thing I would like on it is another shot (6 shot instead of 5) and I should have gotten the ported model. Definately would go with ported if I had gotten the Titanium model.
SB, I assume you went over to the old country for a visit. Someone mentioned that you broke your hip, but figured that Vox would have mentioned THAT so just assumed you were out and about.

Papa,
The Total Titanium's have grips that you would not believe. They make shooting the gun a lot more bearable.
I've got a .357 tracker in stainless. It's bigger, and heavier, but shooting heavy loads out of it, feel like shooting 38's out of a snubby.
The grips are these ribbed rubber deals. Very Very cusioned. Plus the little gun is ported.
I strongly.. STRONGLY suggest you check one out.
