A very famous Republican, Teddy Roosevelt, regarded one Karl Marx very highly. There is an editorial cartoon from the early party of the 20th Century showing TR, JP Morgan, Andrew Carneige and a couple of other folks all shaking hands with the author of The Communist Manifesto. I found it interesting how the rich and powerful seem to love Socialism.

It depends on where you live mostly. When TSHTF, are you the type to hold up and fight? or make a run for the border?

A hot dualsport bike... like the KLR 650 is one helluva way to get the hell outta dodge.

I'd be making friends with the rural folks. The folks who have the skill set to be useful. You want to be around good ol' boys who know how to purify water... make their own electricity... kill and grow their own food.

Just look around at all the things that the government provides, and figure out ways to provide them for yourself, or do with out.

These people are cunning and smart, and probably think 3 or 4 moves ahead on the chess board. How much longer till checkmate is the question.

It won't matter how much gold/silver you have if you don't have the means to protect it. So, guns/ammo first, imo.
(And I won't ever say anything about being safe and learning how to use them, ie practice... because I think that is a given).

And I agree with you SB, nothing like continually hearing something night after night on the news to get it drilled into people's heads that it is for their own good.

Gravatar Been thinking about a mountain fortress myself lately, but unless your goal is martyrdom Ruby Ridge style, it may be a suboptimal solution. The best place to be when TSHTF I'd think would be somewhere else. Failing that, second best place is on a boat, a big ocean-going boat. I'm looking at picking up an old 100+ ft. Tug for under $100K and fixing it up as a very spacious home. A house of comprable size and comfort would cost 3-4 times as much around here.(Though it would be cheaper to maintain.) This way, there's no bugout bags, no ugly sieges, no massive disruptions when the day finally comes. I could just saunter on down to the engineroom, fire up the diesels and chug chug chug my way to international waters and then maybe the UAE or something. As an added bonus, I could even replace my lost livelihood in the short or long term by actually working the Tug.
