Gravatar Hey, good luck to you and the Mrs. sir!

Gravatar abandoned nuclear missle silo.

Try Kansas or North Dakota for missile silos. Good luck on the interview and the house hunt.

Gravatar When you go, be sure and look at the nonverbal communication, especially with the support staff. If the office isn't a happy one, watch out. We would have avoided a bad experience if we knew to look at how the "hired hands" felt about the job.

Also, if you know any doctors in the local community, ask them about the group.

Finally, if one or more of the doctors is a butt, watch out. I know Renae won't use doctors she likes, because she doesn't like one of their partners, and knows that she'll get stuck with them if they're on call. There is a group in town with several good doctors, and 2 docs she thinks are asses. They've lost a lot of business because of those 2.

Good luck. I'll be praying for you for discernment in your job hunt.

Gravatar Good luck with the job hunt.

For folks like me (and you) LOCATION and proximity to family matters more than money.

Never been there, but central TN sounds nice. Hills, creeks, and woods are preferrable to big towns and flatlands.

If not for family considerations (and a lack of jobs) I'd probably be in the western NC mountains. My grandfather had a place up there where I spend a lot of time as a kid. I don't know much about Heaven; but I've always hoped that it will like Henderson Co. NC...except with Jesus and stuff.

You couldn't pay me enough money to relocate outside the South...and I'm pretty particular about what parts of the South as well. Not that other parts of the country aren't pretty - I've been to Alaska and out west a few times - but the South has always been 'home'.

I just wish more people (particularly yankees) were more attached to where they lived.

Gravatar What's the matter with 40? I can almost remember turning 40.

When I look at houses (now on number three since I started thinking tactically) I specify a rancher with a basement and a two car garage, that backs up to woods, and has water (I don't mention the water thing to the realtor). I'm more of a hunker-down-and-hide rather than shoot-it-out sort of survivalist.

So far, we've managed to find this.

Our first house was a rancher with a garage, but no basement. It had an old, usually dry, spring in the crawl space that was piped to the outside. The building inspector said we'd need to put a sump pump in the crawl space and thought the water was a major problem.

Our next house was a brick rancher on two and a half acres, and backed up to a huge state gameland. The house had an artesian well and the overflow went to our neighbors chicken coop (our lots used to be all one farm), and the overflow from the coop pressure tank went to an improved spring about 200 yards from the house (there was A LOT of overflow). There was another improved spring about 300 yards from the house at an AT shelter in the state gamelands. Again, the inspector and all other interested parties thought the overflow line was a big problem and assured us that we didn't have to maintain it if we didn't want to and there were things we could to do "fix" the well problem.

Our current house is a rancher on an acre with a basement, a huge two-car garage plus a large workshop, and an in-ground pool. We back up to woods that provide a buffer zone for a highway and there's a creek, big enough to be named on county maps, that's about 100 yards from the house, through the woods behind our house. I've floated my smaller boat on the creek a couple times, there's sunnies and such in the creek. And again, the realtor thought the creek was a problem "It might flood!"

When we were looking for houses about a year ago when we moved we saw about a half dozen houses that met our criteria. One that looked really good was on four wooded acres and the well was so shallow they used a jacuzzi pump (not a pump from a jacuzzi, but a type of shallow well pump called a jacuzzi pump).

So, these kinds of places exist. Look for older houses, in the newer ones they go to great lengths to "fix" water problems and hide it from the homeowner. Also, most newer houses have city sewer, which can be dealt with in an emergency but it's nice to know that the toilet works no matter what.

Gravatar Have a safe trip. The job will take care of itself. I would imagine that the good Dr is interviewing them more than they are her.

Gravatar Quite right SB. The group she's interviewing with is actually just one Anesthesiologist and several crna's.

She'll either like the feller or she won't. Not much more complicated than that really. Julie does great with CRNA's, so she's really not concerned with them to much.

It's a pretty young group that gets together for parties alot... sounds like fun to us.

We'll see.

Thanks Papa. We appreciate the advice almost as much as the prayers.

Gravatar "At least tell me it has a deep well, self contained power generation, and access to a navigable water way that leads all the way to international waters."

Haha, perfect! If you find that one let me know and I'll buy the house next door.

Have a safe trip, good luck to J with the interview and good luck to you looking for a house.

Middle TN is some pretty country.

Gravatar Nate: "So.. do you know of any underground bunkers for sale around here...along the lines of an abandoned nuclear missle silo...I don't want any windows anywhere...murder holes...blast doors...deep well, self contained power generation, and access to a navigable water way that leads all the way to international waters."

Well, except for the waterway, there's a great place exactly like that here in Colorado Springs.

You just have to evict NORAD, first.

Gravatar If its an abondoned missle silo you're looking for, there is a real estate company that specializes in just that:

http://www.missilebases.com/

I love the Internet!

Gravatar Navigable waterway? I assume you're talking about the Big T. I've seen pictures of the Volunteer Navy doing their thing - tailgating on houseboats - that's freakin' awesome!

But aren't there locks along the way to the gulf? . Access to internation waters may be a problem if you've got to get past the Corp of Engineers.

Should you flee from the aw-thor-a-tays; there's sure to be a BOLA for a heavily armed redneck houseboat/gunboat.

They'll catch you at the locks...unless you have a cunning plan.

Gravatar "... best of all, I would live on the same road that JAC does... albeit a couple hundred miles south of him."

Whooaa!! Are you talkin' bout 127? We were just up there looking at property last week!!! Course we were in Kentucky...

Gravatar Good luck buddy.

Gravatar I'm sure Nate's boat would have levee-blowing torpedoes to aid in his treks.

Gravatar What happened to the cattle ranch? I thought the mountain fortress was going to be surrounded by cow pasture and fine looking black simmental cattle? And an awesome JOHN DEERE tractor?

Gravatar That'd be the 127 he's talkin' about. I'm in Ky, Nate's in WV and lookin' to move in with his mother-in-law.
Whereabouts are you lookin' at property DG?

Gravatar Tractors are RED farmer Tom.

Ride Red!

Gravatar We only have the red tractors.

Gravatar JAC Congradulations on you birthday. Now that you are 40, you are going to have to slow down on that Motorcycle of yours. Some guy nearly killed me on my way home from work, the only thing that saved me from that cell phone ass was horse power.

Gravatar "Nate's in WV and lookin' to move in with his mother-in-law."

I thought they didn't get along, oh well, when the wife's the boss that's what happens.

Gravatar It'll be good to be home again. Good luck to you and the good Dr. Who.

Gravatar Gregg,
Are you sure we're not kin?

Glad you came out OK, Gregg. Always remember, "They ARE trying to kill you."

Thanks on the well wishes.

Gravatar Hi JAC,

We were looking in the Casey/Adair county areas. We also looked over in Hart and some county west of E-town. But, we like the Casey Co. area alot!!

Gravatar Hey, JAC, hope you had a great birthday.

Nate, don't be too hard on him. You might be using that Viagra, yerself, before long.

BTW, you & Dr. Who take care & have a good weekend.

Gravatar Nate, my father and stepmother live in Fairfield Glade right outside of Crossville. (An old folks retirement community mostly.) Nice area. Reasonable drives to Knoxville, Nashville, Smokey Mountains, Lynchburg in case you get thirsty. Up on the plateau the weather is just a little milder during the summer, too. All in all seems like a nice place to live. Good luck.

Gravatar JAC, what?, move in with his mother-in-law, huh? i don't understand!!

Gravatar Make sure nobody left any stargates in the abandoned missile silo. Those Goua'ulds and their Jaffa guards can be a bitch to get rid of... Not to mention the Priors...

Gravatar You didn't know, Joy? Maybe I shouldn't have said anything....

Gravatar I recall Al Bundy's thoughts well... "remember when a driver's side airbag was called a mother-in-law?"

40 eh JAC? Congratulations. But that's not that old you know, I see people bugging out about 40, but Arnie's 58, so that means he was 40 when he did Predator... he was still bloody huge then.

New property eh Nate? Moving out of West Virginia? Texas and Tennessee... I hear these are the Southerner states that rock the most, which one is more in line with what's left of the original American way?

Gravatar Texas.

Gravatar JACIII, I understand that it is your birthday and that you are now among the aged. This probably explains your inability to comprehend the fact the red tractors are for limp ----, spineless, commie, pinko, sons of perdition, who think that it's a crime to hunt and eat red meat. They suck off of the government tit so they can buy their underpowered, overweight, butt ugly, outdated, inefficent, smoke belching, gear grinding pieces of crap that the company tries to pass off as tractors.

People who drive red tractors require Viagria to get anything done.

Since I believe in absolute truth, I believe the Bible is God's written word to mankind, and it contains absolute truth, I give as my authoritative source, the very Word of God. And I quote, "TRACTORS ARE GREEN"
I Hesitations 40:20

Gravatar Okay, I'm not going to take too many other people's word for it, because I trust Will's judgement.

Nate already knows that I think he's an absolutely fucking legend. ATF? No ATF, but I'm drinking. Drinking hard, again.

I've got to beat the fuck out of some Mexicans at the Alamo. Everytime I read that story, it gets me pissed off, especially the part about how Mexicans executed Davy Crocket. Seriously, those fuckers!

Gravatar Those red tractors will HP for HP will drag those pissy light green trators all over the field. You hook a mold board plow behind a JD tractor and you just spin I know.

Gravatar Not onle that but those JD Tractors have jerky hydraulics that really suck on a front end loader. Also they are ten times harder to work on.

Gravatar Deutz,boys...Deutz...

Gravatar Deutz: air cooled diesel! There are few around, but they are still the wrong color. I'd love to play on, I mean work with, one though.

Gravatar FT,
Your smokin' crack, man. I don't count the Indian (Hindu) tractors, and anything under 30 years old hasn't proven it's metal yet.
I'll hook my RED 1952 Farmall Super C up to anything you've got in that range.

Three point hitches are for sissies who can't deadlift their impliments. Quick-Hitch - "The way of the future!"

HA ha!

Gravatar Oh, by the way FT, I am printing your JD diatribe to show to a buddy of mine who "bleeds green". He'll love it!

Gravatar JAC, I've heard about NE GA, is that what you're referring to?

Gravatar I'm sincerly disappointed that there's no "officially sanctioned" ATF going on tonight.

I'm feeling particularly good since I bypassed the A and T and when straight for the hydrocodone (my back is sore...really).

They're leftovers from some minor surgery Mrs. PORCUS had a year ago. She don't need 'em and they were about to 'expire' so - well, I hate to see narcotics go to waste. A couple of tylenol would have sufficed but...what the heck. Why feel 'better' when you can feel 'goooooooood'.

Not to worry, I ain't gonna end up like Rush Limbaugh. I'm too smart for that. I just pray there's no pee test at work on Monday!

Gravatar JAC,

I don't know if you saw my reponse above, but we were looking in the Casey/Adair county area, around Liberty.

Gravatar Will's right Jamie.

Texas.

Though I suppose I might be biased.

Gravatar Missisippi is best

Gravatar Take that back. ANYTHING below the mason-dixon line is best.

Gravatar AND old green tractors kick ass, not those new -fangled bastards wih all that furrin' shit on 'em.

Gravatar Liberty is less than 50 miles from here. What's in that area for ya'? Have you been to Green River Lske near there?

Gravatar We crossed the lake, out 55, on our way to look at some property over near Columbia. We stayed in Danville while we were looking and drove through the Cumberland Lake area several times. I have family from father's side (aunts and uncles) in Mount Washington, Louisville and Willisburg. Most of my mother's family are up in central Indiana.

Mainly we just like the area, and are looking for our hide-away gulch.

Gravatar We had a lousy experience at an Applebee's in Nicholasville. They wouldn't cook a rare steak for my wife.

Other than that, it was a good time, and I got some fresh "Slyders". Haven;t ahd those in a long time.

Gravatar You were within 30 minutes of here, David. We go camping (not real camping - motorhome) and sailing on Green River Lake. Had plans to go this weekend, but the wind wasn't in the forecast. Hope you find what you are after. I will keep an eye on real estate ads for property in that area.
How much land and what improvements are you looking for?

Gravatar Cool, JAC!! Didn't know you were a sailor too! We are bringing a 26 footer with us. We'll have to plan on some sailign weekends.

We would like to get at least 10 acres. The structures are not as important, since we intend to build a custom home at some point. We have been considering everything from mobile homes to Amish houses. We lived out in the woods in Alaska, so we have no fear of 'rustic' living.

Found a 30 acre property near Libery, with a barn, a shop/garage and a small house on it. A few acres are cleared, but most of it is in hardwoods. It has two ridges on it, either of which would be ideal for an earth sheltered home.

Soon as we sell the house down here (Florida), we will be up there. Hopefully before hunting season.

Gravatar Which 26 do you have DG? I sail an old MacGregor 25. Green River Lake is the best lake we have been on so far in the area. Cumberland sucked - the breeze just meandered around. Green River is nice except for just south of the dam it get's kinda narrow. We tacked for an hour 'til I finally said "phuck it" and started the motor.
There is a sailing association at Cave Run Lake and lots of boats under sail there, but I didn't much care for it. Crowded.

Gravatar I have a MacGregor 26, the Classic, not the motorsailer (i'm a purist when it comes to sailing). Bought it new in 1995 and it may have been the last one made. They stopped making the Classic the same month mine was produced. I bought it through a dealer in Seattle and had it shipped to Anchorage. Sailed it in Cook Inlet and manhy of the lakes in south central Alaska. Also took it down to Seward several times and just before I left sailed it solo from Seward to Homer, around the end of the Kenai penisula. Got caught ina gale. Relearned a little bit about fear on that one.

Gravatar Here is the brochure for the one that I have...

Gravatar This thread is peterin' out.

Drop me a line at jaciii@bellsouth.net

Gravatar Nate, there are a few Titan missile silos that come up for sale south of Tucson now and then.

Gravatar Tractors are indeed,red.
