Of course it's gonna be Texas! I mean is their such a thing as a football team outside of the south that knows ANYTHING about football? It's like a second religion down here!
Plus that homo kirk herbstreit played for Ohio! That's reason enough for not to root for'em.

UO: "I mean is their such a thing as a football team outside of the south that knows ANYTHING about football? It's like a second religion down here!"
Is there such a thing as a literate person in the south that knows ANYTHING about English? It's like a second language down there.
However, to answer your question, UO: yes. Take the participants in tonight's match, for example. The Buckeyes won the national championship just four years ago, and five or seven overall (depending on source) to Texas' 2005 championship and four overall. I'd say that makes them just as knowledgeable as Texas.
Do be careful if you try to get into that whole North/South thing as it pertains to football. I already spanked Nate once, so you want to make sure you select the appropriate objective criteria upon which to base your subjective beliefs.

The second half just started and from here is looks like Ohio State's offense is just a little more talented than Texas' D-backs. The 'Horns are putting up a good fight, but I don't think they have quite enough to win.

I thought so.

You're quite right, Papapete. It's turning out to be a good game. But it seems that young Colt is not quite the real McCoy, yet.
Dammit. I'd like to see the Buckeyes go down.

Take a look. Numbers are right there. Raw attendence? SEC wins. Capacity? SEC wins. Percentage of Capacity? The SEC wins, and has won every year since such numbers have been tracked... all the way back to 1983.
Suck that.

And it'll be higher this year, since Alabama expanded their stadium (up to 92,13 .

I'm down with the fact that the South plays better football on the whole, but I have a problem with Texas. UT is the Texas equivalent of Ole Miss, whereas Texas A & M is the equivalent of Mississippi State. Being an unfortunate Bulldog fan, I can't bring myself to root for any team from a town like Austin or Oxford.
Nate, are you kidding me? Have you ever been to Austin?

"which conference does have the most years with highest attendance since the record has been kept?"
of course, attendance has EVERYTHING to do with quality of football in general.
It's easy for the few top teams outside the south to play only one or two tough games a year, since their conferences suck as a whole.
Let's see them play an SEC schedule
And EP, you're right. All taxes actually support the culture of death. Any town that is the seat of government, has a big college/universtity, and is artsy-fartsy is going to be Left/Liberal by nature.

Nice sleight of hand there, Houdini. Your own source only claimed total attendance and avg. per-game for 2005. You've conveniently ignored all the other years for those two statistics while adding another that was never mentioned before. But keep trying to move the goalposts, I see you've practiced very hard.
Your original claim and the ensuing discussions -- both times -- concerned total attendance, not percentage of capacity. And the Big-10 has had more years in total attendance, as I've already proven twice before. Delude everyone else with your magic tricks if you wish, 'cuz I've seen the shyster behind the curtain and I'm done with him.

bw: "of course, attendance has EVERYTHING to do with quality of football in general."
No, it doesn't. But it is the one that Nate has twice proferred as proof that the SEC is better than all the other conferences.
Both times I pointed him toward the record book that disproved that claim. When that didn't work, he changed it to overall national championships. Now, it seems to be percentage of stadium capacity that proves it.
Whatever. I've grown weary of showing facts to people that consistently ignore them. Some people just need to hold on to their delusions.

Seems Nate forgot that Colt is a freshman. Heh. Yeah, he's a good freshman, but he's no Vince.
Reading this post today just made Saturday's victory even better for me here in Ohio. Sure, the politics here suck, but it seems the football is just fine. Heck, I even overheard people saying that the game was BORING, that Texas was never really in it in the second half, questioning "Are the Buckeyes that good, or is Texas that overrated?"
Yeah. This will be a good year for Colt, and he and his family seem like good folk...but Texas will have to wait for another day.
Football is to Texas like basketball is to Indiana. A religion. They'll be back. Next year.

Lived in Columbus all my life. Love the Buckeye sports teams. Hate the university. Every bit as liberal as Austin. They just kicked out the Boy Scouts from ushering at the football games. Over 50 years and they kick them out after the first game of the season - "Oh, by the way, don't bother coming back in two weeks. Thanks for the memories." Claimed that they needed the seats for the students. Except that they NEVER GOT ANY SEATS!!! The scouts could sit in empty seats (if there were any) or in the aisleway.
Tressel is a class act and a great coach. First 5 years at OSU: 1 Natl Championship and 3 top-5 finishes.
I think that Mack Brown is a class act as well.
