Kris Kristofferson was an Oxford Rhodes scholar.
Very interesting, considering Cecil Rhodes' plans for the world. (and Ruskin and Milner)
You're probably right, there's probably nothing we can do about it - except just know the truth, and how they're doing it.

Great post. Throw in a poker table and I'll bring the beer. Oh, and it's Canadian beer, just so you know. It'll do the job quite nicely.

You have kids. What are your plans for them? I mean, your disengagement sounds like a heap of fun, but at some point, the nanny state will come for what you forfeit.

What on earth makes you think we'll still be here then?
I'm not forfeiting anything. I'm leaving. But leaving on my terms, according to our plan. Some things need handled first.

Moving out of the country, then? That's one way to do it. My dad used to talk about moving away as well. Something about Jesse Jackson becoming president.
So where's it going to be? Italy? Ireland? Australia?

Paradise. Some place with an incompetent government that doesn't care at all about its citizens.
Mexico... Brazil... some wee tiny island south of the hurricane zone... Anesthesiologists trained in america can write their own check anywhere in the world. We can live extravagantly... anywhere.
I say... Why not?

My parents look at me like I'm crazy when I mention that I'm thinking seriously about moving out of the US. My Mom especially. My Dad...not so much. I think he gets it but doesn't want to freak out Mom.
Anybody else I know wouldn't get it at all. All frogs happily sitting in a pot destined to boil.

Margarita Island off the coast of Venezuela is supposed to be a nice place. There is even a website dedicated to it called www.bulletproofretirement.com.
I also heard that they are selling 1 acre lots in the Galapagos Islands for 25,000 per acre.

Mmm. We've got a place. Over there. It's just a matter of finances.
I'm not sure we could legally sell (to non-citizens of the country involved) even if we wanted to. Wonder how leasing would work out? We've been thinking of building a tourist resort . . . maybe we should be thinking about long-term leases to ex-pats. No matter what we do we'll have to put in some major infrastructure.
Does anyone know of any place that does something like that? Would anyone go for, say, a fifty-year lease? Or hundred-year? Tropical climate, good hunting and fishing.

I know in Mexico many often do 99-year leases to non-citizens as it is illegal for them to buy property...
