Teach the boys how much fun it is to brush her. Make it part of their daily routine.

Dysons do rock... not as much as SchH trained GSDs but they do help clean up after them.
If you don't mind me asking... what lvl of SchH is she trained to?

She's not schultzhund. upon research I decided specificly to go away from schultzhund titled dogs... as they have a tendency to be robot dogs. They obey pretty much everyone. The working dog has been trained out of them. They are for show.
Now... that's a very general rule. There are schultzhund titled dogs out there that are awesome protection dogs. I just wasn't going to spend the extra money for a titled dog that carried potentially adverse baggage.

She sounds lovely. I'm not a particular fan of the breed myself for a variety of reasons, but I do admire them. The thing that people who don't know anything about Schutzhund's or a dog like yours is that they are the exact opposite of aggressive. In fact in Germany it is not permitted to breed shepherds that have not passed a certain level of training and part of this has to do with making sure they are not aggressive.
I personally love the aloofness of certain types of dogs. They are not unfriendly, just indifferent to anyone but their pack.
I also love that they aren't food rewarded. We've never used food as rewards in training.

Our dogs get treats tron, just not as rewards. I had a dog that loved ice cubes too! My last two dogs have not been food motivated so treats wouldn't have worked anyway. Now the vizsla, you could probably get him to mow and edge the lawn for a treat. He's dumb as a box of rocks so he'll end up washing the car instead, but will try his best if food is involved ;^)

Ya nailed the aggression aspect SB. My family and friends were, and to some extent still are skeptical of Bonita. They think of her as a police dog. In truth she's the exact opposite of a police dog.
If you've ever seen police chase videos you know the dogs always have to be forced off the suspect.
Regardless of the level of aggression involved... bonita responds to "Aus!" instantly. She immediately halts any attack or aggressive posturing.

Don't hate him because he's beautiful.
He's also very old and starting to show it which makes me extremely sad.
I don't think all vizsla's are as dim as ours, but they're not as pretty either. Generally I'm for having dogs cut (unless you're a breeder) but I would have loved to have a pup of his. As it is we'll likely be in the market for a dog by next Christmas - thinking about a lab (or labradoodle) for the NumberOne. He'll be old enough to really take care of it and do the basic training - make it his dog and in a house full of girls it will be a good thing.

Well I hope the justice system in TN is more reasonable than the one in NJ.

First they will take the guns then the dogs. We are not permitted to have protection unless it is from the government haha.

It's a bit confusing - the owner hired the landscapers which means trespassing doesn't really apply. The rabies thing is likely BS because 4 of the "vicious" dogs were puppies.
I'm trying to figure out the timeline because it seems that the landscapers did wait for some period of time (why didn't the owner have the dogs secured if they did wait 15 minutes).
Conflicting news regarding the rake and grabbing the wife - some stories state that neither happened.
The dogs did not relent from the attack even when ordered by the owners - but there were puppies present and in danger.
Assuming I'm not missing something, the owner earned a kick in the a$$ for letting the situation get out of control (not putting the dogs away immediately, possibly not explaining fully to the worker why they had to wait) and the landscapers should have stayed in the truck as was requested (and not hit the dogs with a rake or grabbed the wife).
Apparently the Judge has DUI's on his record (why is he still a judge??)
i don't think that the dog deserves to die

Hey trk - I know you can get them in different sizes, but I wouldn't mind a big one since it's housemate will be a Ridgeback. How do you like them aside from that? My cousin has a lab we dog sit for frequently that the kids love, but I like the low to no shed of the labradoodle plus they're so adorable.

I always used food. That is how I taught Xena a lot of what she knows, but she doesn't get rewarded with them much anymore, mainly because we keep forgetting to get her some at that time.

Since I was called a dude I am going back to being Linda.
SB my daughter babysits for a couple that has a labradoodle. She thinks it is the greatest dog ever created...obedient and good with the children.
Nate, while reading a book by Suzanne Clothier (a breeder of GSD in NY) she tells of her experience attending a schutzhund class. She is a dog behaviorist that does not equate dogs with humans, but she seems to understand dogs mentality, especially with other dogs. Anyway, her explanation of the dog attacking the glove was not aggression, but joy at biting it.
I had a German bred GSD, Sabra, that was a pet. She was not aggressive, but she did like to grab you with her teeth when she was young. I taught her not to do it, but every once in awhile she would graze me with her teeth for fun.
I have two Salukis (mother and son) and when they play they always mouth each other. They never break the skin its just fun to them.

sb,
The ones my parents have very high energy. They can leap over a 5ft fence and they love to get into everything. For example, since they can leap the fence, my parents were putting an electric wire on top of it, but during the install, the dogs destroyed one of the wiring boxes.
Recently, the got into a fight with each other and one almost killed the other. Not sure what started the fight either.
They are very pretty, sweet but just high high energy.
